Job Description

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Relay Engineer to join our team. The Relay Engineer will be responsible for the design, installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of protective relaying systems in substations and power systems. This role ensures the reliability, stability, and safety of electrical networks by analyzing system requirements and implementing appropriate protection schemes. Key Responsibilities: Review, and implement protective relay settings and schemes for substations and transmission/distribution systems. Perform installation, calibration, and functional testing of protective relays and associated equipment (e.g., CTs, PTs, circuit breakers, SCADA). Conduct commissioning of new substations, transformers, switchgear, and protection systems. Troubleshoot and analyze relay operations, protection system malfunctions and fault. Prepare relay coordination studies, fault analysis, and system protection reports. Maintain accurate documentation of relay test results, settings, and maintenance activities. Ensure compliance with utility, industry, and regulatory standards (IEEE, IEC, NERC, etc.). Collaborate with design engineers, field technicians, and utility operators to ensure reliable system protection. Support outage planning, system upgrades, and emergency restoration activities. Provide technical training and guidance to junior engineers and field staff. Qualifications & Skills: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (specialization in Power Systems preferred). Proven experience (0–5 years or more) in relay protection and control engineering. Strong knowledge of protective relaying principles, power system faults, and protection coordination. Hands-on experience with protective relay testing equipment (e.g., Omicron, Doble, Megger kits). Familiarity with leading relay manufacturers (e.g., ABB, Siemens, SEL, GE). Proficiency in using computer, communication and software tools (e.g., SEL AcSELerator, DIGSI, CAPE, ASPEN). Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, and schematics. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Good communication and teamwork abilities. Willingness to travel and work in substations/field environments.
