About MelJol

MelJol is a non-governmental organization (NGO) registered under the Societies Registrar. MelJol also has international presence through its sister concerns, namely Aflatoun International & Child Youth & Finance International with a collective presence across countries. MelJol was initiated as a field action project of Family and Child Welfare, TISS – Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai in December 1991. Since its inception MelJol has focused on fostering healthy attitudes in children, creating awareness of the different needs of child development in different backgrounds, and building spirit of confidence and entrepreneurship.

MelJol seeks to contribute in addressing the issues related to India’s URBAN and RURAL poverty by meaningfully involving children, youth, and community. It seeks to encourage a new generation of young people and intends to equip them with knowledge and skills to better understand the power of economic growth, social & financial equity and concepts of risk & reward enabling them to break the cycle of poverty.

Job Summary

The Project Manager will be responsible for the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of projects focused on children and youth, with a special emphasis on financial inclusion and life skills development. The role involves leading project teams, coordinating with stakeholders, managing budgets, and ensuring impactful and sustainable outcomes for target communities.

Key Responsibilities

1. Project Planning & Management

  • Develop monthly, quarterly, and annual project work plans aligned with organizational goals.
  • Oversee project implementation and ensure timely completion of all activities.
  • Develop and implement strategies to maximize project impact and long-term sustainability.
  • Track and monitor budget utilization against planned activities.

2. Capacity Building & Team Leadership

  • Train, mentor, and provide handholding support to project staff and field coordinators.
  • Conduct capacity-building sessions for stakeholders including children, youth, teachers, and community members.
  • Support in building leadership qualities and life skills among youth participants.

3. Stakeholder Engagement & Liaison

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with government departments, regulatory authorities, schools, and community leaders.
  • Develop collaboration with external partners, NGOs, and networks working on child and youth development.
  • Organize donor visits, exposure visits, and stakeholder consultations.

4. Field Activities & Beneficiary Engagement

  • Conduct on-field sessions and training with children, youth, teachers, and other beneficiaries.
  • Design and execute campaigns, events, and awareness drives on financial literacy, life skills, and inclusion.
  • Ensure participation of marginalized and vulnerable groups in all project activities.

5. Monitoring, Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare detailed monthly, quarterly, and annual project progress and financial reports.
  • Maintain accurate project data, case studies, and success stories.
  • Document learnings, best practices, and innovations for knowledge sharing.

6. Communication & Advocacy

  • Provide content for newsletters, social media, and external communications showcasing project impact.
  • Support advocacy efforts to strengthen policies and practices in child and youth development, financial literacy, and life skills.

7. Resource Mobilization

  • Support in identifying new funding opportunities and partnerships.
  • Contribute to proposal writing and donor engagement.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Development Studies, Education, or related field.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in project management, preferably in child/youth development, financial inclusion, or life skills programs.
  • Proven experience in working with government departments, schools, and communities.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and reporting skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, data management tools, and project reporting.
  • Willingness to travel frequently to field locations.

Salary: 420,000 to 480,000 P.A (Negotiable depending on experience and skills)
