About Urja Trust

Urja Trust is a Mumbai-based grassroots nonprofit supporting young women (18–35) who have experienced homelessness, violence, or systemic marginalization. We create safe and empowering spaces for survivors to access justice, health, livelihood, and civil rights, while engaging with systems and communities to promote gender-transformative behaviors and approaches. Our work is rights-based, trauma-informed, and guided by human rights and intersectional principles.

Purpose of the Position

The Program Manager drives the integration of interventions addressing gender-based violence, holistic health, legal support, and rehabilitation. They center survivor experiences and rights to ensure services are responsive, dignified, and effective. The role requires a systems thinker with expertise in structural and gender-based violence, responsible for developing robust rehabilitation frameworks and fostering strong institutional partnerships. They uphold the organisation’s mission and values, promoting equity, inclusion, and empowerment across all program interventions.

Key Responsibilities

Program Management

  • Supervise and coordinate social workers, caseworkers, and mental health and legal professionals, ensuring survivor-centric, trauma-informed, and rights-based interventions.
  • Oversee program operations, including budget utilization, case allocation, and holistic care plans.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders and integrate rehabilitation components into a unified, effective program delivery model.

Strategy & Systems

Lead monthly operational planning and assess program impact to enhance interventions. Strengthen systems, SOPs, and policies, and build robust external networks. Represent the organization in forums to foster a supportive and collaborative ecosystem.

Reporting & Documentation

Maintain accurate records, care plans, and meeting notes. Provide timely progress updates and relevant data to support reports, proposals, and research.

Capacity Building

Support team and volunteer capacity-building through workshops and training, and contribute to developing SOPs and internal toolkits for effective program execution.

Eligibility Criteria

Education: Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Law, or a related Humanities field.

Experience: Minimum 5+ years of experience in addressing domestic and gender-based violence, preferably within the domains of gender justice, mental health, or social justice.

Knowledge: Strong understanding of trauma-informed care, intersectionality, and the structural dynamics of caste, gender, and sexuality.

Legal Frameworks: Familiarity with key legal provisions such as the Domestic Violence Act, Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act, Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act (PWDVA), IPC/BNS provisions on sexual violence, and POCSO.

Skills: Proficiency in program management, documentation, communication, and conflict management.

Leadership: Demonstrated experience in a leadership role, with the capacity to manage a team of 20–25 members.

Languages: Fluency in English and Hindi is required; proficiency in Marathi will be an added advantage.

Professional Ethics: Commitment to feminist values, confidentiality, non-discrimination, and survivor-centric, rights-based approaches.

Location: Candidate should be based in Mumbai.
