Duties
We offer the post of
Press and Public Diplomacy Officer (LA Group II)
in the Press and Public Diplomacy Section. The team consists of thirteen people and there are occasional atypical working hours. Under this job function, the successful candidate will be responsible to the Head of the Press and Public Diplomacy Section for the following tasks and duties:
- Propose, design and coordinate strategic communication campaigns using multiple communication channels (press, digital, social media, events, etc.), in close coordination with the different sections in the Delegation;
- Contribute to the design, coordination and implementation of various media activities in Washington, DC and beyond to amplify EU messaging to US audiences. Coordinate relevant media engagements for visiting EU Commissioners, the Ambassador and other high-level EU officials.
- Support the Ambassador and Spokesperson in building and fostering contacts with media in the US. Help to maintain and expand the Delegation’s network of contacts with journalists and media in the US.
- Support the development and implementation of various public diplomacy events;
- Draft speeches and background briefings;
- Manage procurement contracts and budgets pertaining to relevant campaigns, programs and events;
- Build partnerships with relevant US stakeholders;
- Liaise with EU Member States on the implementation of strategic communication and public diplomacy initiatives;
- Provide assistance for other relevant section tasks (up to 20% of working time), as may be required, and participate I the activities of the section and Delegation as necessary.

- The salary range is not negotiable but determined by proof of relevant and verified employment experience, starting from $92K (4 years’ experience), $94K (6 years’ experience), $96K (8 years’ experience) etc.

This is a 2 Year Contract subject to renewal. The anticipated start date is 1 November 2025.
Eligibility requirements
- Minimum of High School/Secondary School education required, a Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, public diplomacy/public relations or other field related to communication and public affairs is preferred;
- Minimum of 4 years' experience in communication, public relations or public diplomacy.
We look for
- Experience in media relations including digital media; knowledge of the US media environment;
- Experience in communication campaign design and implementation;
- Experience in event management is an advantage;
- Strong knowledge of transatlantic relations and EU affairs is an advantage;
- Excellent communications skills, including presenting information clearly both orally, in writing and on digital platforms;
- Strong sense of initiative and creativity;
- Ability to work in team and coordinate teamwork; sense of responsibility and motivation;
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize and flexibility with regard to working hours;
- Strong knowledge of IT tools including press monitoring, digital and social media tools and AI;
- Excellent spoken and written command of the English language, excellent English writing and editing skills; knowledge of other European languages is an advantage;
- Experience of working in an EU or international organization, a diplomatic mission, a multicultural environment or familiarity with the European Union is an asset.
