Merchandiser – Leather Bags

Role Overview

The Leather Bags Merchandiser oversees product development, sampling, costing, production coordination, and vendor management for leather bags. The role ensures timely execution of collections and orders while maintaining quality, cost efficiency, and smooth communication between design, production, and suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

1. Product Development & Sampling

Coordinate with pattern makers and sample makers for prototype development.

Source materials: leather, hardware, linings, zippers, and trims.

Maintain a library of materials, colors, textures, and hardware options.

Follow up on sample corrections, approvals, and pre-production samples.

2. Costing & Negotiations

Prepare detailed cost sheets for each style, including leather consumption, hardware, labour, and overheads.

Negotiate prices with vendors and suppliers to meet target margins.

Evaluate cost-saving alternatives without compromising quality.

3. Production Coordination

Create and manage production orders with timelines and technical sheets.

Track production progress and ensure deadlines are met.

Coordinate between factory teams, QC, and logistics for on-time delivery.

Resolve production issues related to leather quality, stitching, color variations, or hardware.

4. Quality Assurance

Inspect samples, pre-production pieces, and bulk production for alignment with specifications.

Monitor stitching standards, leather defects, edge finishing, reinforcement, and construction quality.

5. Inventory & Documentation

Maintain records of materials, consumption, order status, and production sheets.

Prepare BOM (Bill of Materials), tech packs, and specification sheets.

6. Market & Trend Analysis

Benchmark competitor products and pricing.

Support design team in planning seasonal collections.

Skills & Qualifications

Technical Skills

Strong understanding of leather types, grades, finishes, and testing parameters.

Knowledge of bag construction, pattern making basics, and sampling processes.

Excellent costing & negotiation skills.

Familiarity with CAD/Illustrator/Excel for tech packs & documentation.

Soft Skills

Strong communication & vendor relationship management.

Eye for detail and quality.

Multitasking, planning, and production coordination skills.

Experience - 1- 2 years in merchandising for leather bags, accessories, or fashion goods.

Location - Noida, India
