About this Position
The Packaging and Automation Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of packaging operations, equipment automation, and continuous improvement initiatives within our adhesive manufacturing facility. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, people management skills, and a strategic mindset to ensure high-volume, cost-effective, and safe packaging of our diverse adhesive product portfolio (e.g., epoxies, acrylics, hot melts, sealants) into containers ranging from cartridges and tubes to drums and totes
What You´ll Do
- Packaging Operations & Management Oversee the daily operations of all packaging lines, ensuring efficiency, quality, and adherence to production schedules. Manage and optimize packaging processes for various adhesive viscosities and container types. Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), line utilization, yield, and changeover time, implementing corrective actions as necessary. Ensure all packaged products meet strict quality standards, minimizing defects and rework.
- Automation & Engineering Lead the selection, installation, qualification, and maintenance of new packaging machinery and automation systems (e.g., robotic palletizers, automatic fillers, sealers, labelers). Develop and manage the capital expenditure (CAPEX) budget for packaging and automation projects. Collaborate with the R&D and Engineering teams to transition new adhesive products into scalable and efficient packaging lines. Oversee the integration of packaging systems with plant-wide Smart factory systems.
- Team Leadership & Development Manage, mentor, and develop a team of packaging supervisors, operators, and maintenance technicians. Conduct performance reviews, manage scheduling, and ensure appropriate staffing levels to meet production demands. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and technical excellence within the packaging department
- Safety, Quality, and Compliance Champion a Safety First culture, ensuring all personnel and processes strictly comply with Henkel SHE, environmental, and company safety standards, especially concerning handling hazardous chemicals. Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all packaging equipment and processes. Ensure compliance with all necessary regulatory and quality requirements (e.g., ISO standards, customer specifications).
- Continuous Improvement (CI) Utilize Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles to identify and eliminate waste, reduce costs, and improve throughput on packaging lines. Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for major equipment failures or quality deviations in packaging. Drive projects to reduce material waste, improve energy efficiency, and optimize utility consumption within the packaging area.
What makes you a good fit
- Minimum 8+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing operations, with at least 3 years in a management role focused on packaging, automation, or process engineering.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Chemical) or a related technical field.
- Experience in the adhesives, chemicals, coatings, or related high-viscosity process industry is highly preferred
