Legal Counsel for AMC (Mutual Fund business)

As a Legal Counsel at our company, you will be responsible for managing the general legal requirements including documentation, advisory services, and handling legal queries from the AMC and Trustee Company. Your role will involve working closely with the Head of Legal in India, the Company Secretarial function, and other executives to help the AMC achieve its business objectives. Additionally, you will collaborate with the Compliance function to ensure adherence to all applicable laws and SEBI regulations. Your principal accountabilities will include overseeing all legal matters of the AMC, such as vendor and contract management, marketing and distribution, product development, mutual funds/asset management, operations, finance, and providing ancillary legal advice related to the business in India. You will also be responsible for drafting and vetting various legal documentation, managing litigation, conducting legal research, and advising on new laws and regulations affecting different teams within the organization. Qualifications required for this role include a Bachelor of Laws degree, with company secretarial experience being an advantage. You should have experience in Indian financial services laws, SEBI Regulations, Companies Act, and corporate and commercial legal matters. Strong communication, analytical, and drafting skills are essential, along with problem-solving abilities and a high degree of integrity. You should be able to work autonomously, escalate when necessary, perform well under pressure, and demonstrate resourcefulness and initiative. Your attributes should include attention to detail, a focus on compliance with legal and regulatory obligations, the ability to build strong working relationships, and a commercial approach to problem-solving. Ideally, you should have 5-7 years of work experience as a lawyer, preferably in the mutual fund/asset management industry or related sectors such as financial services, insurance, banks, or law firms. In this role, you will collaborate with internal teams such as the Head of Legal, Corporate Services, Operations, Finance, Compliance, and HR, as well as external contacts including legal advisors and auditors.,
