Please note this job is currently going through profile matching.** Applications are invited for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Surgical First Assistant (SFA) to join our expanding Orthopaedic surgical team, which includes Physician Assistants, Orthopaedic Surgical Trainees and Clinical Fellows. The successful candidate will be an integral member of the team, complementing the current extended Orthopaedic surgical team, by providing high quality, patient-focused, continuous and competent surgical assistance to the Orthopaedic operating surgeons under their direct supervision, whilst not performing any form of surgical intervention. They will have expertise of Orthopaedic practice, demonstrating a breadth of knowledge required to practice safely, effectively and efficiently. The role is primarily an intraoperative one, but the successful candidate will join the operating surgeon in the pre- and post-operative visits, in order to further their clinical knowledge. The Golden Jubilee University National Hospital Orthopaedic department is one of the largest Arthroplasty units within the UK, with 24 orthopaedic Consultants, two of whom specialise in foot and ankle surgery, and one in hand/wrist surgery. The department undertakes approximately 4000 primary and revision joint replacements and over 500 other elective orthopaedic procedures (including foot & ankle, soft tissue knee surgery and hand) per year. The Foot and Ankle Unit is a high volume centre for elective surgery with over 600 elective orthopaedic procedures each year and is a high volume centre for total ankle replacements. The orthopaedic department consist of 24 orthopaedic consultants (21 lower limb arthroplasty, 2 foot & ankle, 1 hand & wrist). Seven laminar flow theatres are available for surgery from Monday to Friday, with 2 laminar flow theatres available routinely on a Saturday. There is an additional non-laminar flow theatre for foot & ankle, hand & wrist and soft tissue knee surgery. As part of a hospital expansion programme, a further three laminar flow theatres will come into use in due course. A rare opportunity has arisen for an experienced Radiographer to lead the MRI department within the Golden Jubilee Hospital. Full time hours are preferred but 0.8 WTE would be considered. GJUNH provides essential imaging capacity for patients across Scotland under its remit as the National Waiting Times Centre, alongside specialist imaging services as the West of Scotland Cardiothoracic Centre. The department currently has 4 MRI Scanners, 2 CT scanners, 5 Cardiac Cath Labs, 4 plain film rooms, 1 Dexa Scanner, 1 dual purpose Imaging/Fluoroscopy room, as well as numerous Image Intensifiers and mobile units. There are three Ultrasound rooms and in addition, we also host the National Ultrasound Training Programme within our unit. The MRI Lead Radiographer role is central to delivering our commitment to drive down patient waiting times for Health Boards across Scotland. This role is to manage three Siemens MRI scanners performing a range of MRI imaging (non-Cardiac), staffed with a blend of core and rotational Radiographers. The department operates an extended working day and is open Monday to Friday without on-call and as such, there is an opportunity for a condensed working week. You will work very closely with the Cardiac MRI Lead Radiographer to provide an optimal service to our patients, considerate of staff skill mix and dynamic prioritisation, joining a wider team of skilled and supportive Lead Radiographers. Due to a department restructure, NHS Golden Jubilee is seeking a Radiographer with strong leadership and organisational skills for the role of Operational Lead Radiographer. Full time is desired but 0.8 WTE may be considered for the right candidate. The GJUNH provides essential waiting times imaging for all Health Boards in NHS Scotland, along with specialist imaging services as the West of Scotland Cardiothoracic Centre and also supports the NHS Golden Jubilee site by providing in-patient imaging. The department currently has 4 MRI Scanners, 2 CT scanners (with a third coming online in August), 5 Cardiac Cath Labs, 3 Ultrasound Rooms, 4 plain film rooms, 1 Dexa Scanner, 1 dual purpose Imaging/Fluoroscopy room, as well as numerous Image Intensifiers and mobile units. Radiology also hosts the National Ultrasound Training Programme within our unit. You will be responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the department on a day-to-day basis, considerate of skill mix, clinical prioritisation and safe staffing levels. Joining a wider team of skilled and supportive Modality Lead Radiographers, you will form part of the collaborative leadership team to address routine issues and shape the Radiography department for the future, whilst maintaining your clinical skills. The Microbiology Department at NHS Golden Jubilee provides clinical microbiology services to the hospital and currently processes approximately 65,000 specimens per year. The successful applicant will be involved in the day-to-day running of the Medical Microbiology diagnostic laboratory service, maintenance of existing services and for future development of the service.
