Job Goal

To lead and manage the ICS Library and Media Center (LMC), ensuring it is an engaging, inclusive, and resource-rich environment that supports students, faculty, and parents. The LMC Director facilitates information literacy, technology integration, and research skills while promoting a love for reading and lifelong learning.

Job Summary

The LMC Director oversees daily operation of the LMC and collaborates with teachers to support literacy and research. Areas of responsibility include:
  • Ensuring a smooth operation of the Library and Media Center
  • Teaching the Honors Senior Thesis course
  • Providing students, staff, and families with library services
  • Providing services related to research and technology to students and teachers

Performance Responsibilities

Counseling & Student Support:

  • Maintain all aspects of the library including books, library management system (Follett AccessIt), periodicals, and equipment.
    • Maintain LMC operating hours of 7:35 am - 4:00 pm daily
    • Take care of all check-out, check-in, and shelving of books
    • Send out automated overdue notices and collect fines
    • Purchase new books, materials, and supplies for the library within the budgeted amount
    • Create new accounts for patrons as needed including students, faculty, staff, and parents.
  • Curate quality, diverse, inclusive, and relevant resources that support the school mission, curriculum, and learners’ interests.
  • Develop and maintain an environment that is inviting, safe, flexible, collaborative, inclusive, and conducive to learning
  • Promote reading through programs such Literacy Days and other LMC activities throughout the year, including but not limited to author visits and book tastings
  • Lead a committee of teachers and select Academic Board members that deals with books whose contents have been questioned and are being reconsidered
  • Supervise all library assistants, as well as student and volunteer parents
  • Update the Library Standards of Operating Procedure (SOPs) yearly

Providing Students, Staff, And Families With Library Services

  • Schedule library usage time for all classes as needed
  • Assist students with printing
  • Support the Accelerated Reading Program in collaboration with the ES Principal
  • Assist students, staff, and families in finding books and resources

Providing services related to research and technology to students and teachers:

  • Work with teachers to assist in the teaching and development of research skills among all of the students
  • Assist teachers in finding books and materials in specific subject areas

Teaching Honors Senior Thesis Course

  • Plan, prepare, and execute lessons, utilizing appropriate resource materials and activities
  • Employ a variety of instructional aides, methods, and materials that will promote best practices in order to reach the whole child, as stated in the ICS mission statement
  • Assess student learning against the appropriate standards on a regular basis and provide ongoing feedback
  • Explore and learn about emerging technologies, such as Generative AI, with a commitment to integrating them effectively into the classroom to foster critical thinking and guide students in developing ethical and responsible use

Other Responsibilities

  • Teaching the Honors Senior Thesis course
  • Performing other duties as needed/assigned by the Supervisor
  • Expected to work the final 2 days of New Staff Orientation; these additional days will be compensated

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Library Science or in Education (Master’s degree preferred)
  • Proficiency with library management systems, preferably Follett AccessIt or any industry-standard Library Management System
  • Experience with teaching research, information literacy, and technology integration
  • Prior school library/media center experience preferred
