Job Description

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: SMT

1. ME Roadmap for Short-term & Mid-term for specific product portfolio

▪ Review Short term, Mid-term & Long-term business plan and analyze it along with BD & PM

▪ Review capacity annually and monthly in view of the sales plan & strategic product development plan and recommend action and ensure its execution.

▪ Define Major Projects to be undertaken in view of the business plan. Allocate projects to related members and review manpower utilization of the ME function. Review projects periodically for ensuring their timely completion.

▪ Review emerging technologies in their respective fields, evaluate them for relevance from time to time. If found suitable, make recommendations, define the project charter and get it executed.

▪ Identify process cost reduction projects to keep on making the product profitable, like Manpower reduction projects, cycle time reduction projects, low energy consuming processes, faster machines etc. and drive them through relevant engineer.

▪ Drive horizontal deployment of good processes across other EBU plants


2. Greenfield/

▪ Evaluate project proposal for capacity to be installed, capex to be done, layout, material flow, inventory and overall building layout

▪ Work with project CFT members to finalize the project charter timelines and its scope

▪ Review and drive project. Take support of top management as and when required to iron out obstacles.


3. Identifying & Drive major automation initiatives

▪ Identify & drive major automation projects by conducting feasibility study, preliminary RFQ development, discussion with suppliers, visit & selection of supplier, concept creation, evaluation & development of proposal, IRR & payback evaluation, DAP approval and final trial at supplier

4. People skill development:

▪ Review skill gaps in respective product lines of ME and plan trainings on specific process like soldering, winding etc. as well as related to system related skills like ESD certification etc.

5. Provide Process expertise to drive team

▪ Provide Process expertise, during new product development, automation projects etc. to avoid stagnation on projects by plant team

▪ Provide process expertise to EBU ME engineers and R&D to develop new technology products of Advance Engineering, where there is no experience with Varroc for such products and processes like traction motor.

▪ Keep on identifying machine suppliers, who can provide new technologies or existing technologies at better price and quality.

▪ Review all capex proposals for the right suppliers, process cost, benefit etc. and give recommendations

. Know-how development

▪ Identify critical processes of respective product lines, identify process expert and provide guidance to them to develop Process guidelines and manuals, e.g.: soldering know-how, ESD know-how etc.

▪ Identify possibility for introduction of new technology/ alternate material/process elimination/material standardization in the existing capacity to improve efficiency and cost savings

▪ Develop Model Line specifications for cost effective line and cell development

▪ Keep on reviewing and standardizing critical process for technologies used, Interlock, IOT etc. and get model line specifications updated


Current products (In process) phase: (ME Current Product lead Variant)

  1. Capacity Planning

  • Periodically review capacity sheet cellwise and product wise and get it approved from Plant ME head
  • Annual capacity planning and proposals for annual budgeting to plant ME Head
  • Monthly capacity utilization review and recommend actions to plant ME Head
  • Review & Plan capacity improvement for growth products by de-bottlenecking, automation etc.
  1. Quality Improvements

  • Periodic review of PFMEA, pokayoke and interlock list along with concerned engineer
  • Review process defect analysis and its adequacy for preventive/defective controls and get approval from plant ME Head
  1. Productivity Improvement

  • Reduce direct manpower by automation, alternate process recommendation, conveyorization for material movement, layout improvement etc.
  1. Industrial engineering

  • Lead MOST norm estimation for new products as well as current products as and when requested
  • Provide production manpower estimation as per indent plan after analyzing opportunities and flow for improvement of workstation ergonomics and implement necessary actions
  • Drive productivity and flow Improvements through industrial engineering effort of line balancing, material flow, man motion, station design study
