About The Opportunity
Healthcare / Clinical Services sector — Multispecialty surgical care focused on delivering high-quality, evidence-based general and minimally invasive surgeries to patients in a semi-urban/rural catchment. This on-site consultant role is centered on building surgical capacity and improving perioperative outcomes through safe laparoscopic and open general surgery practice in Barnala, Punjab.
Primary Job Title (standardized): Consultant General Surgeon - Laparoscopic Surgery
Role & Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive on-site general surgical care across OPD, IPD, elective theatre lists and emergency call—performing both laparoscopic and open procedures with high standards of safety and documentation.
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic laparoscopic procedures (e.g., cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hernia repair, diagnostic laparoscopy, adhesiolysis) and convert to open surgery when clinically indicated.
- Manage perioperative pathway: pre-operative assessment, informed consent, anaesthesia coordination, post-operative care, complication management and discharge planning.
- Lead and supervise theatre teams and junior surgeons: enforce aseptic protocols, ensure equipment readiness, mentor staff, and promote OT efficiency and patient safety.
- Drive clinical quality through participation in morbidity & mortality reviews, audits, procedure outcome tracking and implementation of evidence-based protocols.
- Maintain accurate medical records, follow regulatory and infection-control policies, and represent the surgical service in multidisciplinary meetings and community outreach where needed.
Skills & Qualifications
Must-Have
- MBBS with MS (General Surgery) or DNB (General Surgery) — eligible for medical practice in India with valid state medical registration; willing to be based on-site in Barnala, Punjab.
- Minimum 3+ years post-qualification experience with demonstrable hands-on experience in laparoscopic general surgery and emergency operative care.
- Proven ability to independently run elective theatre lists and manage surgical emergencies, with strong perioperative decision-making and patient-safety orientation.
- Proficiency in OT protocols, sterility, instrument handling, and teamwork with anaesthesia and nursing staff.
- Excellent clinical documentation, patient communication, and ability to lead junior staff and trainees.
Preferred
- Fellowship or certification in Minimal Access / Laparoscopic Surgery or additional training in advanced laparoscopic techniques.
- Experience in rural or semi-urban hospital settings, exposure to endoscopy or advanced abdominal procedures, and a track record of participating in clinical audits and quality-improvement initiatives.
