About jhana :

jhana is an early stage, seed-funded homegrown artificial legal intelligence lab, established at Harvard in February 2022 and made in India. jhana builds datasets, agents, and interfaces that help produce legal work faster and with higher fidelity. jhana's suite of product offerings use AI to streamline workflows across the legal field including litigation, corporate law and in-house counsel, and the judiciary. jhana was recently declared the most outstanding new legal tech in Asia and Oceania by ALITA, the Asia-Pacific Legal Innovation & Technology Association.

About the role :

This role will be part of an agile full-stack engineering team, responsible for the maintenance, stability, and improvement of the entire jhana.ai service. This teams primary tasks will include : integrating new product offerings; rehauling UI to optimize user experience; expanding the offered databases; closing all bug reports in a timely manner; maintaining the server and the microservices that support it; and more. All members of this team will work across diverse repositories and technologies in multiple languages as necessary.

The day-to-day :

This is an intermediate role distributed across research, engineering, and product. Relatedly, it is a combination of invention and optimization. These are the problem statements that this role will likely continue or begin our work on

• Develop, test, and maintain full-stack applications, with knowledge of Python and JS/TS-based frameworks appreciated.
• Low-level understanding of relational databases and SQL or similar technologies.
• Implementing scale and optimization for billion-scale ElasticSearch, and experience working with large ElasticSearch systems.
• Understanding of deploying and maintaining containerized and concurrent pipes on AWS with familiarity and experience using tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Collaborate closely with UX/UI designers to implement MaterialUI-based designs and ensure a seamless user experience.
• Contribute to building and enhancing RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation) pipelines and search stacks.
• Continuously optimize applications for performance, scalability, and security.
• Participate in code reviews, troubleshooting, and debugging to ensure high-quality software delivery.

Skills & Qualifications :

Required Skills :

• Experience: Looking for 2+ years of experience
• Frontend : Proficiency in JavaScript or Typescript.
• Backend : Strong experience with API development and RESTful services, ideally with substantial experience in Django/Python.
• Databases : Solid knowledge of SQL and database design.
• Cloud : Hands-on experience with AWS for deploying and managing cloud-based applications.
• UI/UX : Experience with MaterialUI and collaborating on responsive, user-centric designs.
