Position Overview:
As the Engineering Lead for Precision Automation products at Xalten Systems, you will spearhead the design, development, and launch of cutting-edge precision automation products. This includes leading the development of next-generation precision motion platforms and advanced vision-guided assembly systems. You will manage and mentor a high-performing team of engineers, ensuring the delivery of innovative products that meet the highest standards of precision, performance, and cost-effectiveness. In this role, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product development, manufacturing, and R&D, to bring creative solutions to complex engineering challenges
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative working environment focused on solving complex precision automation challenges.
- Define and execute the technical strategy for next-generation robotics, ultra-precision motion systems, and advanced smart vision systems, driving significant advancements over current approaches.
- Oversee the complete product development life-cycle for new precision automation products, from concept and design through rigorous testing and production, with a strong emphasis on manufacturability and cost efficiency.
- Leveraging demonstrated deep expertise in machine vision, drive the development of advanced vision system design, including sophisticated optics, illumination techniques, high-speed camera integration, and robust image processing algorithms for metrology, inspection, and high-precision part handling.
- Guide the team in the selection, integration, and optimization of advanced drive systems, including linear encoders, linear motors, and EtherCAT-capable drives and controllers for synchronized multi-axis operations.
- Define and implement rigorous test methodologies to evaluate system performance, including accuracy, repeatability, and long-term stability, and drive the validation of detailed product specifications.
- Collaborate with Management and Marketing/Sales to align product engineering with evolving market needs and aggressive business goals.
- Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, tools, and technologies, staying at the forefront of precision engineering.
- Ensure adherence to stringent quality standards, safety protocols, and industry best practices for high-reliability automation.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation effectively to ensure timely delivery of complex, high-impact projects.
- Prepare and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including detailed design specifications, test plans, and regulatory standards.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to continually advance Xalten’s product offerings and maintain a competitive edge.
Qualifications:
- At the least, a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, or a related field; Master’s degree or PhD preferred.
- 8+ years of engineering experience, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role managing multidisciplinary teams focused on hardware-software co-design.
- Demonstrated expertise and a strong track record in designing and developing precision motion platforms, advanced robotics, and/or high-speed machine vision systems.
- Deep understanding of precision mechanics, including mechanical tolerances, backlash, stiffness, and thermal effects, and their impact on system accuracy.
- Proven experience with advanced control systems, including PID loop tuning for high-performance servo drives, and knowledge of real-time control architectures (e.g., EtherCAT).
- Hands-on experience with linear motors, linear encoders, and other high-precision drive systems.
- Strong expertise in machine vision system design, including camera selection, lens optics, lighting techniques, and advanced image processing algorithms for metrology and pick-and-place accuracy.
- Familiarity with both conventional OpenCV techniques and modern AI-based image processing approaches for industrial automation applications.
- Familiarity with Six Sigma methodologies (e.g., Green Belt or Black Belt certification) and a strong ability to apply statistical process control and quality improvement techniques.
- Extensive experience in defining, developing, and executing rigorous test plans for complex automation systems, with proven ability to validate system performance for accuracy, repeatability, and reliability.
- Proficiency in engineering software tools (e.g., CAD, FEA, simulation software) and programming languages (e.g., Python, C/C++, particularly for real-time embedded systems).
- Solid understanding of embedded systems, control systems, sensor/actuator integration, and industrial automation protocols.
- Experience with agile development methodologies and product life-cycle management in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills, with the ability to inspire and guide a high-performing technical team in achieving stringent quality and performance goals.
- A track record of delivering innovative, high-quality, and cost-effective products in a complex engineering environment.
