Role Title: Engineer / Senior Engineer – Trade Compliance & Export Control (Software Focus) Location: Pune, Hinjewadi Experience Required: Minimum 5 and Maximum 10 years Education: Bachelor’s in software engineering, Computer Science, IT, or equivalent Role Objective To support Atlas Copco’s global trade compliance operations by accurately classifying software products and components under customs and export control regulations (EU, US, WTO). The ideal candidate will act as a subject matter expert, bridging the gap between software development and international trade regulations by understanding technical software concepts and applying the correct compliance classifications. Key Responsibilities Export Control Classification: Analyse and classify software products and modules under EU and US export control regulations using relevant control lists (e.g., EAR, EU Dual-Use Regulation). HS Code Classification: Assign correct HS codes for software-associated products (software on hardware, embedded systems, etc.) based on functional and technical attributes, in line with WTO and regional customs guidelines (EU, India, USA, China). Software Understanding & Screening: Work closely with software development teams to understand functionalities, source code structures, encryption details, and deployment methods to determine classification requirements. Dual-Use Compliance: Evaluate software or software-enabled products for dual-use control applicability using GRI/GIR and other global frameworks. Stakeholder Collaboration: Communicate regularly with global teams—service centres, customer centres, and product companies in Belgium, India, and the USA—to resolve queries and provide accurate compliance support. Training & Mentoring: Support knowledge sharing and training for team members on export control and software classification topics. Required Skills & Experience Software Knowledge: Familiarity with software development lifecycle (SDLC), programming languages, source code structure, and deployment environments (cloud, on-premises, embedded systems). Export Control Expertise: Hands-on experience in classifying software under EU and/or US export control laws (e.g., ECCN codes, EU control lists). Trade Compliance Proficiency: Minimum 5 years in customs compliance or trade classification, HS Classification; experience with GRI/GIR rules for HS code classification. Technical Documentation Interpretation: Ability to read and interpret software specifications, architecture documents, technical manuals, and supplier information. Tools & Systems: Experience working with SAP/BPCS/ERP is a plus. Comfortable managing large datasets and navigating online sources for technical validation. Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal English communication skills. Experience handling international communications and resolving cross-border regulatory issues. Preferred Profile A candidate with a background in software or IT who has practical exposure to export control, understands technical software concepts, and has experience applying trade regulations to software-based products or systems.
