About This Role

Working as part of a team of embedded engineers you will be key to developing our next generation of embedded automation solutions. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced software engineerto work in a mixed signal environment, developing software for both analogue data acquisition systems and ARM based micro-controllers for high reliability operation in a hostile environment.You will work with the Project Manager, Product Manager and/or other stakeholders to develop technical specifications then realize the product and support its release to the end user. The ability to work on a broad range of systems applying different programming languages would be advantageous; developing the embedded software and contributing to the development of associated diagnostic tools/graphical interfaces in different programming languages would be a good example of this.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

Skills:Analyze the scope and requirementsMethodical approach to problem solvingCreate concept designsUse Integrated Development Environments together with Change and Configuration Management tools to develop software source codeDevelop comprehensive test cases to demonstrate that functional and performance requirements are metWork with electronics, systems and mechanical engineers to design and debug systemsAble to work effectively to meet agreed timescales having considered and planned the project activitiesResearch emerging technical and regulatory trendsDebugging software, using various testing methodologies, and identifying performance bottlenecks.Understanding low-level hardware architecture, software optimization, memory management, and real-time processing

Essential Knowledge:

Proficiency in programming languages such as C assembly languageReal-time operating systems (RTOS) and real-time programming techniques.Object Orientated Design and Structured Analysis and DesignChange and Configuration Management toolsA strong understanding of embedded hardware, microcontrollers, and processorsEngineering mathematics and modelling (for analogue measurement systems)Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and development pipelinesThorough knowledge of MS Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel

Desirable Knowledge:

Knowledge of communication protocols such as UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, or EthernetFamiliarity with Agile development methodologies and tools like Jira.Understanding of power management techniques for low-power embedded systems.Knowledge of MV distribution systems and switchgearStrong analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex technical challenges.

Qualifications:
