Job Title: Deputy General Manager (DGM) – Plant

Job Summary:

The DGM – Plant is responsible for overseeing the overall operations of a pesticide manufacturing facility, including production, maintenance, quality, safety, compliance, and resource planning. This role ensures cost-effective, high-quality, and safe production in alignment with business objectives and regulatory requirements.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Plant Operations Management:

  • Lead end-to-end plant operations including formulation, filling, packaging, utility management, and dispatch.
  • Ensure production targets are met with consistent quality and efficiency.
  • Monitor plant performance metrics and drive continuous improvement.

2. Strategic Planning & Execution:

  • Collaborate with senior management on annual operational plans, budgets, and capital expenditures.
  • Develop and implement strategies for productivity improvement, cost reduction, and capacity expansion.

3. Regulatory & Statutory Compliance:

  • Ensure all operations comply with relevant regulatory bodies like

  • Facilitate internal and external audits and address non-conformities proactively.

4. EHS (Environment, Health & Safety):

  • Establish and enforce strong safety culture and SOPs.
  • Ensure hazardous waste handling, effluent treatment, fire safety, and emergency preparedness systems are robust and compliant.

5. Production & Quality Coordination:

  • Liaise with R&D, QA/QC teams to ensure right-first-time manufacturing and batch quality.
  • Address root cause analysis of quality issues and production deviations.

6. Team Leadership & People Management:

  • Lead a multidisciplinary team including Production, Engineering, Maintenance, EHS, and Logistics.
  • Drive training and development programs to enhance team capabilities and compliance culture.
  • Promote team accountability and operational discipline.

7. Maintenance & Asset Management:

  • Oversee preventive and breakdown maintenance of plant equipment and utilities.
  • Ensure optimal uptime and reliability of critical assets like reactors, filling lines, boilers, scrubbers, etc.

8. Inventory & Cost Control:

  • Ensure optimum use of raw materials, packaging, and utilities.
  • Monitor OEE, batch yields, material variances, and implement cost-saving initiatives.

9. Technology & Infrastructure Enhancement:

  • Identify opportunities for automation, process improvement, and capacity enhancement.
  • Lead plant modernization or expansion projects, including capex planning and execution.


Qualifications:

  • Education:

    B.E. / B.Tech in Chemical Engineering or M.Sc. Chemistry (preferred with MBA in Operations or Industrial Management)
  • Experience:

    15–20 years of experience in pesticide/agrochemical manufacturing, with at least 5–8 years in senior plant leadership


Key Competencies:

  • Deep understanding of agrochemical formulations (EC, SC, WP, WG, SL, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance and safety standards
  • Proven leadership and crisis-handling ability
  • Strategic thinking with a hands-on operational approach
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management
  • Exposure to ERP systems (e.g., SAP)
