Job Description

An MEP Design Engineer is responsible for designing, installing, and maintaining Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems in buildings and construction projects. They ensure all systems comply with safety standards, building codes, and project requirements. In some companies, the role also includes planning and billing responsibilities to support project execution and cost control. Key Responsibilities 1. Design Create 2D models of MEP systems that include all physical, technical, and functional aspects  Develop detailed layouts for HVAC, fire fighting, plumbing, electrical distribution, and related services. Ensure all designs meet technical, safety, and regulatory standards. 2. Planning Prepare project schedules, timelines, and work plans. Coordinate material planning and manpower requirements. Monitor project progress and update management on work status. Align design outputs with project planning milestones. 3. Billing Prepare material quantity take-offs (BOQ). Verify contractor bills with site measurements. Ensure billing accuracy based on drawings and executed work. Track project costs and prepare cost reports for management. 4. Installation & Coordination Assist and supervise installation of MEP systems on-site. Coordinate with civil, architectural, and structural teams to avoid design clashes. Integrate MEP systems within the overall building design. 5. Maintenance & Evaluation Inspect existing systems to identify upgrade or replacement needs. Recommend energy-efficient and cost-effective solutions. 6. Sustainability & Safety Incorporate energy-efficient designs and automation. Ensure fire protection, ventilation, and electrical systems follow safety norms. Skills Required Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Excel, and project planning tools Strong problem-solving skills Good communication and coordination abilities In-depth knowledge of mechanical, electrical, fire-fighting, and plumbing systems Understanding of project scheduling, BOQ, and billing processes Education Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering (BE/B.Tech). Diploma holders with strong experience may also be considered for junior roles.
