Design Engineer

This position is primarily responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of a CAD team that supports global programs, specifically in Sheetmetal/Exteriors, while strictly adhering to the Product Development process. Key responsibilities include supporting proposal development and project execution, as well as creating and maintaining metrics to track delivery and quality. The role also involves significant interfacing with internal and external customers. The individual will manage a team performing Interior/Exterior New Part Development Design projects, DPA01 assessments, and post-FDJ CAD changes, ensuring processes align with Ford standards. They will also contribute to TMM training coordination and guide the team in identifying and implementing efficiency improvements.

• Education Qualification: Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering or Automobile Engineering.
• Number of Years of Experience: 8+ Years.
• Professional Exposure:
  • Extensive experience with commodities in Body Exterior / Sheetmetal / Seating new part design, ongoing product development changes, and digital pre-assembly assessments.
  • Understanding geometric requirements within the context of the vehicle as defined by engineering requirements.
  • Developing CAD Designs in CATIA based on Engineering directions for Sheetmetal/exterior commodities.
  • Facilitating Engineering review of the CAD using collaborative tools such as Webex, IM, emails, etc.
  • Populating the Design in Vehicle context and attaching it to the Digital vehicle structure.
  • Applying GD&T for completed designs.
  • Releasing CAD data adhering to OEM release standards.
  • Liaising with the Engineering team, suppliers (as required), and other design teams to clarify and sign off the design.
  • Ensuring the quality of CAD meets CAD Design standards.
  • Supporting CAD Release activity, following proper naming conventions, Branding, General Notes checks, etc., to ensure data meets release requirements.
  • Executing and checking the progress of Designs and suggesting alternatives whenever required to ensure deliverables meet appropriate quality for each milestone of the Product Development process.
  • Considering potential design constraints (packaging, manufacturing, etc.) and ensuring due consideration is given in developing solutions.
  • Preparing work-related documentation and 'lessons learned' documentation to provide benchmark knowledge for future work on other programs.
• Special Knowledge or Skill Required:
  • CATIA V5 / Vismock up, Team Center.
  • Leadership exposure as a team lead / project manager in executing Design projects.
• Any other requirement:
  • Experience in Ford CAD Release Processes.
  • PC skills – MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good analytical skills.

• Serve as the point of contact for GES Onsite coordinators and D & Rs.
• Lead a team performing Interior or Exterior New part development design projects, DPA01 assessments, and Post FDJ CAD changes.
• Ensure that the processes followed in project execution are in line with standard Ford processes and practices.
• Execute and check the progress of projects, suggesting alternatives whenever required to ensure deliverables meet appropriate quality standards for each milestone of the Product Development process.
• Resolve day-to-day project-related concerns with customers and team members.
• Work effectively with design teams to develop solutions within defined deadlines and time constraints.
• Maintain an awareness of potential design constraints (packaging, manufacturing, etc.) and ensure due consideration is given in developing solutions.
• Develop work-related documentation and prepare 'lessons learned' documentation to provide benchmark knowledge for future work on other programs.
• Contribute to TMM training coordination.
• Identify and implement efficiency improvement actions for assigned projects.
