Data Governance Specialist

Role Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Data Governance Specialist to join our Data Strategy & Governance team. This role will be pivotal in ensuring that data privacy policies and controls defined by the Central Data Team (CDT) and Data Privacy Office are effectively implemented and enforced across our data hubs and platforms. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of data governance frameworks, privacy regulations, and enterprise data management practices.

Key Responsibilities:

• Policy Enforcement: Ensure that privacy policies, data handling standards, and control mechanisms published by CDT and Data Privacy teams are consistently applied across all data platforms and hubs.
• Governance Frameworks: Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of data governance frameworks, including data ownership, stewardship, and classification models.
• Compliance Monitoring: Collaborate with platform teams to monitor compliance with internal and external data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
• Data Quality & Integrity: Work with data stewards and custodians to ensure data quality, lineage, and integrity across systems.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with cross-functional teams including Legal, Security, Engineering, and Analytics to align governance practices with business needs.
• Documentation & Reporting: Maintain comprehensive documentation of governance processes and generate regular reports on policy enforcement and compliance metrics.
• Training & Awareness: Promote data governance awareness and provide training to relevant stakeholders on privacy controls and best practices.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 8-13 years of experience in data governance, data privacy, or related roles.
• Strong knowledge of data privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA, etc.) and industry standards.
• Experience with data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Azure, AWS, GCP) and governance tools (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, Alation).
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Analytical mindset with attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Skills:

• Certifications such as CDMP, CIPP, or equivalent.
• Experience in implementing data governance in large-scale enterprise environments.
• Familiarity with metadata management and data cataloging tools.
• Experience is life sciences or healthcare is a plus
