CIVIL 3D Design Engineer

JOB SUMMARY: Senior Staff Engineer 

Responsible for assisting with the planning, design and permitting of civil engineering, land development and infrastructure projects, and leading specific assignments and tasks.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Prepares the planning, design and permitting documents of civil engineering, land development and infrastructure projects in close collaboration with Project Personnel using engineering and design software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, etc.) and equipment.

2. Effectively uses software, reports, maps, drawings, engineering plans, tests, aerial photographs, and guidelines and manuals to assess soil composition, terrain, hydraulic and hydrological characteristics, and topographical and geologic data to plan and design projects.

3. Leads tasks associated with the preparation and modification of various engineering documents including reports, specifications, plans, cost estimates and designs for projects.

4. Performs cost calculations and determines feasibility of projects based on the analysis of collected data

5. Performs zoning, sustainability and other feasibility assessments for development projects.

6. Coordinates and performs field inspection services, as needed.

7. Writes and/or reviews draft reports, including feasibility studies, stormwater management reports, technical specifications, and utility reports.

8. Prepares draft proposals in collaboration with Project Personnel.

9. Reviews draft invoices and project budgets with Project Personnel.

10. Applies knowledge and techniques of engineering and advanced mathematics.

11. Applies knowledge of sustainability and resiliency best practices to projects.

12. Reviews all work product prepared by staff.

13. Collaborates with team members on project tasks and assignments.

14. Supervises or coordinates the work of staff engineers, interns and others who assist in specific assignments, as needed.

15. Collaborates with Project Personnel in coaching and training staff.

16. Assists other work groups within the same or different office locations and/or within the same or different disciplines on an as-needed basis.

17. Participates in cross-discipline training and assists with projects outside one's own discipline (data collection or reduction, design assistance, field assistance).

18. Performs and manages tasks within specific budgets and schedules.

19. Recommends new approaches and ideas that continuously improve efficiency and services performed.

20. Interacts in a professional manner with client and subcontractor representatives in close collaboration with supervisor.

21. Demonstrates effective and high quality communication, both written and verbal, in addition to good presentation skills. Occasionally presents lunchtime/brown bag seminars.

22. Remains current on engineering, sustainability, and resiliency practices, guidelines, regulations, software, and best management practices and attends internal and external training to expand knowledge and skills.

23. Maintains an understanding of in-house resources and external sources of information and regulatory requirements, keeps up to date on changing regulatory requirements as they affect our projects.

24. Actively participates in a technical professional association.

25. Actively participates in internal Health and Safety training and has strong commitment to Health and Safety in the workplace and field.

26. Performs other duties as requested.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Accreditation:

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering: FE/EIT certification, apply for PE exam upon meeting requisite experience, LEED AP preferred. Begin pursuit of advanced degree (if not yet obtained), strongly desired

Experience and Skills:

3-6 years' experience in site/civil design, including site planning, grading, stormwater management, drainage, and soil erosion is desired

Familiarity current with local, state, and federal land use permitting

Knowledge of sustainability and resiliency best practices

Strong attention to detail

Ability to multi-task effectively

Excellent analytical and judgment capabilities

Ability to work well individually and within groups

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Strong AutoCAD and Civil 3D design skills
