Job Description

The Restaurant Captain is responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of the restaurant staff to ensure excellent guest service, smooth operations, and adherence to quality and hygiene standards. The Captain acts as a link between guests and the service team, ensuring that dining experiences are pleasant and memorable.

Key Responsibilities:

Guest Service:

  • Greet guests warmly and ensure they feel welcomed and comfortable.
  • Take and confirm guest orders accurately; ensure special requests are met.
  • Supervise service quality and ensure timely delivery of food and beverages.
  • Handle guest complaints or feedback promptly and professionally.

Operations & Supervision:

  • Oversee daily restaurant operations during assigned shifts.
  • Allocate tasks to stewards, waiters, and busboys to maintain workflow.
  • Ensure table settings, cleanliness, and overall ambiance meet standards.
  • Coordinate with the kitchen and bar to ensure smooth order flow.
  • Maintain proper billing and cash handling procedures.

Training & Teamwork:

  • Train and guide new staff in service procedures and guest handling.
  • Motivate the service team to maintain high levels of efficiency and courtesy.
  • Conduct briefings before service to share menu updates and daily specials.

Inventory & Reporting:

  • Check and maintain stock levels of cutlery, crockery, linen, and supplies.
  • Report breakages, shortages, and maintenance issues to the manager.
  • Assist in daily closing reports and guest feedback logs.

Requirements:

  • Diploma or Degree in Hotel Management or related field.
  • Minimum 2–4 years of experience in restaurant service, with at least 1 year as a Captain or Team Leader.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of food & beverage service standards.
  • Ability to lead, train, and motivate a team.
  • Presentable appearance and positive attitude.
