The Building Energy Expert will support the implementation of building energy efficiency initiatives
under the Tamil Nadu Project Management Unit (PMU) as part of the India Cooling Action Plan
(ICAP). The role involves assisting the Technical Lead in updating procurement and construction
specifications, implementing EcoNiwas Samhita, promoting passive cooling and thermal comfort,
and engaging with private sector developers. The ideal candidate should have a background in
building sciences, architecture, or engineering and a keen interest in sustainable and energy-efficient
construction practices.
1. Assist in updating procurement and construction specifications with a focus on energy efficiency and sustainable practices.
2. Support the implementation and monitoring of EcoNiwas Samhita compliance in residential and affordable housing projects.
3. Contribute to the development of guidelines and resources on passive cooling and thermal comfort techniques.
4. Provide technical assistance in the design and evaluation of energy-efficient building projects.
1. Support engagement efforts with government departments, private sector developers, and industry associations to promote energy-efficient construction practices.
2. Assist in organizing training programs, workshops, and stakeholder consultations for capacity building in building energy efficiency.
1. Contribute to the coordination and implementation of building energy efficiency projects, ensuring timely delivery of tasks.
2. Assist in maintaining project records, preparing progress reports, and documenting lessons learned.
3. Support the preparation of multilingual materials (in Tamil and English) to promote energy-efficient building practices.
1. Conduct research and gather data on building energy efficiency technologies, standards, and best practices.
2. Assist in analyzing project outcomes and preparing technical reports to inform policy recommendations.
3. Monitor developments in energy-efficient building codes and provide inputs to project activities.
• Bachelor’s degree in Building Sciences, Architecture, Engineering, or related disciplines. A Master’s degree is preferred.
• 2–4 years of experience in energy-efficient building design, sustainable construction, or related fields.
• Exposure to building codes, energy efficiency standards, and green building practices is desirable.
• Experience in engaging with government departments or private stakeholders is an advantage.
• Foundational knowledge of building energy efficiency standards, passive cooling strategies, and thermal comfort.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
• Proficiency in technical documentation, data analysis, and report preparation.
• Advanced proficiency in written and spoken English.
• Familiarity with EcoNiwas Samhita, the India Cooling Action Plan (ICAP), or similar frameworks.
• Hands-on experience in energy-efficient housing projects or sustainable urban development.
• Knowledge of green building certifications and practices
• Fluency in Tamil
This is a full-time position, the person will need to work out of our Chennai or Auroville office.
