Job Description

Purpose/Objective


    This role will be responsible for the strategic planning and oversee the execution of maintenance processes to ensure the reliability and efficiency of all equipment. This role involves providing technical direction, overseeing operational management, and leading improvement initiatives. This will also manage the annual budget, inventory, and procurement processes, while ensuring compliance with safety and maintenance standards.

Key Responsibilities of Role


    Head Maintenance Mechanical Department Strategic Planning and Leadership: Develop and implement strategic and tactical plans in conjunction with peers and section heads to enhance mechanical maintenance processes. Lead and provide technical direction to the mechanical maintenance team, ensuring efficient and reliable operation of all the equipment. Participate in cross-site knowledge sharing, including conclaves and seminars, to stay updated with industry best practices. Operational Management: Ensure the availability of all the equipment by monitoring critical issues and ensuring timely resolution. Proactively plan and execute systems to prevent future problems, including preparing and reviewing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and Standard Maintenance Procedures (SMPs). Oversee the annual and half-yearly planning and spares and consumables requirements for all the equipment. Ensure effective management of contracts to ensure compliance with maintenance standards. Coordinate with other departments to facilitate smooth operations and address inter-departmental issues. Maintenance and Improvement: Ensure preparedness for Annual Overhauling (AOH) and Capital Overhauling (COH) and lead the planning and execution of annual overhauling and shutdown activities, ensuring timely and safe completion of projects. Ensure Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Management of Change (MoC), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Zero Failure Objective (ZFO) and conduct troubleshooting and equipment failure analysis to improve reliability and performance. Ensure healthiness and maintenance of all the equipment and structures through corrosion preventive measures. Budget and Inventory Management: Prepare and finalize the annual budget for the mechanical maintenance department. Manage inventory efficiently, including the development of indigenous spares and timely refurbishment of materials to optimize costs. Tracking service and material budgets on monthly basis. Ensure the implementation of improvement projects within the allocated budget. Oversee the procurement process and review purchase requests (PRs) raised by the team. Business Sustainability: Create and maintain a safe and environmentally compliant working environment in accordance with CHETNA guidelines. Implement DISHA initiatives and obtain certifications such as IMS, AWMS, and Six Sigma to enhance safety and operational efficiency. Conduct technical audits, including ISO, IWMS, and 5S. Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, including boiler license renewals, lifting tools, and tackles certifications. Implement safety management systems and ensure participation in mock drills to mitigate hazardous processes. Digitisation and Automation: Lead and execute comprehensive digitization strategies to optimise operational efficiency. Innovate and implement automation solutions to support overall organisational goals / strategy. Review and implement process and system improvements, adopting newer technologies and innovative ideas. People and Team Engagement: Participate in the recruitment process to attract and retain skilled personnel for the Mechanical maintenance team. Drive and enhance employee engagement across the team to sustain a positive workplace culture. Lead, inspire and mentor the team to foster a high-performance culture and ensure cross skilling through job rotation, technical and behavioural trainings. Ensure proper succession planning in the team. Foster a conducive environment for high employee retention by ensuring team satisfaction and professional development. Qualifications and Experience


    Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent degree in a related field. Work Experience (Range of years): 19+ years of experience in Mechanical maintenance within a power plant or similar industrial setting. At least 5 years in a leadership role. Preferred Industry: Experience in the Thermal power generation industry, particularly with exposure to BTG and BoP area maintenance and mechanical systems.
