🧾 Assistant Accountant – Key Roles and Responsibilities1. Financial Record KeepingMaintain accurate and up-to-date financial records. Assist with ledger maintenance (General, Sales, Purchase). Record day-to-day financial transactions in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, SAP). 2. Accounts Payable and ReceivableProcess supplier invoices and employee expense claims. Match invoices with purchase orders and delivery notes. Prepare and send customer invoices. Follow up on outstanding payments (credit control). 3. Bank ReconciliationReconcile company bank statements with internal records. Investigate discrepancies or unusual transactions. 4. Month-End and Year-End AssistanceHelp in preparing financial reports at the end of each month. Support with year-end closing and audits. Assist in producing trial balances and P&L reports. 5. Payroll SupportAssist in calculating staff wages and salary adjustments. Support payroll processing and tax calculations (PAYE, NI, etc.). Maintain employee expense and reimbursement records. 6. Tax and Compliance SupportAssist with preparation of VAT returns, tax filings, and statutory reports. Ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal controls. 7. Budget MonitoringHelp track and monitor department or project budgets. Flag variances between actuals and budgets. 8. Financial ReportingGenerate standard reports such as income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports. Prepare ad-hoc reports for management. 9. Internal SupportWork closely with other departments to resolve finance-related queries. Support senior accountants or finance managers with specific tasks or projects. 10. Data Entry and System MaintenanceEnsure timely and accurate data entry into accounting systems.
