Job Title: Soldering Technician / Electronics Assembly Technician Location: HBR Layout Department: Manufacturing / Production Reports To: [Supervisor/Production Manager] Job Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Soldering Technician to join our electronics manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for soldering electronic components onto printed circuit boards (PCBs) according to industry standards, with an emphasis on IPC J-STD-001. This role requires a strong understanding of soldering techniques, quality control processes, and ensuring that all solder joints meet the required specifications to guarantee product reliability and performance. Key Responsibilities: Soldering Operations: Perform hand soldering Utilize soldering equipment (soldering irons, hot air rework stations, solder paste, etc.) to ensure high-quality, precise solder joints. Follow IPC J-STD-001 standards for soldering and ensure that all soldering work meets the required quality and reliability specifications. Quality Assurance: Inspect your own soldering work for defects such as cold solder joints, solder bridges, tombstoning, and other common soldering errors. Work closely with the Quality Control team to ensure that assemblies meet the highest standards for visual and mechanical inspection. Follow strict guidelines for the cleanliness of the work area and component handling to avoid contamination or damage during the soldering process. Process Improvement: Provide feedback on potential process improvements or challenges in the soldering workflow. Participate in training to stay updated on the latest soldering techniques, equipment, and IPC standards. Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of soldering work performed, materials used, and inspection outcomes. Ensure that all soldering tasks are logged, and any issues are documented and addressed in a timely manner. Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all company safety guidelines, including proper handling of soldering materials and tools. Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations regarding soldering and electronics assembly. Collaboration & Communication: Collaborate with other production team members, engineers, and quality control staff to ensure timely and accurate product assembly. Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding work status, issues, and improvements. Qualifications: Required: IPC J-STD-001 Certification (or willingness to obtain certification within the first 6 months). Proven experience in soldering electronic components onto printed circuit boards (PCBs). Strong knowledge of hand soldering techniques, including both through-hole and surface-mount soldering. Ability to identify and correct common soldering defects (e.g., cold joints, bridges, etc.). Understanding component handling, ESD (electrostatic discharge) protection, and the importance of maintaining a clean workspace. Ability to follow detailed work instructions, assembly drawings, and technical specifications. Excellent attention to detail and manual dexterity. Preferred: Experience with reflow soldering and wave soldering techniques. Basic knowledge of PCB inspection processes. Previous experience in electronics manufacturing or assembly. Knowledge of IPC-A-610 or IPC/WHMA-A-620 (for wire harnesses). Skills and Competencies: Technical Skills: Proficiency in using soldering equipment and inspection tools. Ability to work with small components and follow precise assembly instructions. Problem-Solving: Ability to quickly identify soldering defects and take corrective action. Communication: Good verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with team members and supervisors. Teamwork: Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
