Purchasing Manager Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Purchasing Manager to lead our procurement operations.This role is critical for ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of mechanical, electrical, and electronic components essential for our defence and aerospace systems.The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of technical specifications, and a proven track record of managing complex supply chains in a highly regulated industry.
Responsibilities
This individual will be responsible for developing procurement strategies, managing vendor relationships, and ensuring all purchasing activities align with our quality standards and business Strategy & Leadership:
- Develop and implement strategic sourcing plans for all materials, components, and equipment, with a focus on long-term cost reduction and supply chain efficiency.
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of purchase executives, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
- Oversee the entire procurement lifecycle, from initial sourcing to final delivery and Management & Negotiation:
- Identify, evaluate, and qualify new vendors and suppliers, ensuring they meet rigorous technical and quality standards (e.g., AS9100, MIL-STD).
- Negotiate complex contracts, pricing, and terms with suppliers to secure favorable agreements and ensure continuity of supply.
- Manage and nurture existing vendor relationships, conducting regular performance reviews and driving corrective action where & Operational Oversight:
- Work closely with engineering, quality, and production teams to interpret technical drawings, BOMs (Bill of Materials), and product specifications to ensure accurate and compliant purchases.
- Ensure all procured items meet strict quality standards and regulatory requirements.
- Optimize inventory levels and coordinate with production planning to ensure materials are available to meet project timelines without excess capital & Documentation:
- Ensure all procurement activities adhere to regulatory requirements, including import/export regulations (DGFT, MoD), and company policies.
- Maintain meticulous records of purchases, supplier performance, and compliance documentation using ERP systems.
- Stay abreast of changes in market trends, material costs, and new technologies relevant to the defence and aerospace Management:
- Develop and manage the purchasing department budget.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiencies across the supply Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronics preferred).
- Master's in Business Administration (MBA) is Minimum of 3 years of experience in a procurement or supply chain management role in a leadership or managerial position.
- Direct experience in the defence, aerospace, or a similar highly regulated manufacturing industry is essential.
- Proven experience in interpreting technical specifications, blueprints, and Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Exceptional negotiation and contract management abilities.
- Deep knowledge of supply chain management principles and best practices.
- Proficiency in using ERP systems for procurement and inventory management.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
- Familiarity with quality standards such as ISO 9001 and AS9100.
- Knowledge of government procurement processes and regulations in India is a significant advantage
