Position Summary
- The primary purpose of the local Tech Center Manager role is to deliver process safety excellence, technology standardization, and continuous improvement initiatives at FMC’s site. The Site Tech Center Manager is also responsible for ensuring successful transfer of new products from R&D into commercial production.
- Lead and enhance process safety standard at site level, while ensuring the Tech Center team's strict adherence to all corporate EHS policies.
- Provide expertise and leadership required to design and deliver work programs such as production support, capital project, process improvement and new production introduction.
- Challenge the current established protocols, systems or ways of working seeking opportunities of improvement while helping drive standardization across sites
- Coach and develop high quality technical talent across the Tech Center department at local level to ensure organizational resilience
The Role
- Drive implementation of Process Safety Management (PSM) program, focusing on the Process Safety Information (PSI) and cyclical Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) process, in line with goals from the Process Safety organization and requirements of local government regulations
- Foster a data-driven culture to effectively identify and manage continuous improvement initiatives (technology improvement program, operational asset utilization “OAU”, material usage factor, etc.) by prioritizing based on business drivers and feasibility, applying robust technical methodologies, and monitoring results with standardized metrics
- Guide the Tech Center team and site personnel in the safe and successful execution of capital projects (generally up to $2M), by ensuring alignment with business objectives. Provide comprehensive technical support and, when necessary, direct project management resources to guarantee that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest safety standards
- Lead the successful execution of new product introductions (NPI) by managing the transition of new products from R&D to commercial scale, including potential pilot plant phases, or by re-siting existing production from other FMC facilities or toll manufacturers to the site. Additionally, provide technical support for transferring products from the site to other locations.
- Help drive robust standardization of process technology by collaborating with Global Tech Center through Technical Guardians, Product Guardians and other Tech Center Managers to establish and implement fit-for-purpose procedures, methods and tools, ensuring their consistent application across technology center teams to optimize overall efficiency and effectiveness of the department
- Through strategic workforce planning, ensure human resource is properly sized with the right technical competencies to support the site in the short and long term by developing functional expertise of Tech Center team member, while providing mentorship to run plant engineers and other technical site personnel when required
- Bolster the technical talent pool by actively nurturing the growth and development of team members, ensuring the organization’s long-term resilience. - Effectively manage the fixed cost budget by closely monitoring expenditures and promptly highlighting any deviations. Ensure that the annual budget process is completed on time, aligning with the company’s established timeline and financial objectives. Proactively identify and address potential budgetary challenges to maintain fiscal discipline and support the organization’s financial health.
The Candidate
- Degree in Chemical Engineering is required, with chartered engineering status preferred if available locally. A degree in Process Chemistry may be considered if accompanied by extensive practical experience in engineering practices
- Comprehensive practical experience & theoretical knowledge in Chemical Engineering (or Organic Process Chemistry) with typically more than 10 years’ experience within high hazardous chemical manufacturing environment
- Possesses broad expertise in cutting-edge process technology, with a strong understating of capital projects delivery process, from concept development to commissioning.
- Extensive experience in production support, including plant troubleshooting, and deep knowledge of technology transfer processes.
- Vast experience in managing high skilled technical teams and able to influence indirect multi-functional taskforce
- Strong capacity to deal with complex technical, financial and schedule challenges in a structured and targeted manner
- Excellent Oral/Written communication skills in local and English.
