Based in Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, or Mumbai, this role will be responsible for developing and implementing the University of Surrey's student recruitment strategy in India, with a particular focus on the South and West regions. The position will directly report to both the Surrey-based Regional Manager for South Asia and the Head of Launchpad at UKIBC.
The post holder will build successful working relationships with key partners and stakeholders in India (including recruitment agents; universities; schools; colleges; the British Council, alumni and graduate employers) in order to increase recruitment of the best prospective students from India to the University of Surrey.
The post holder will support the development and implementation of the University of Surrey’s student recruitment strategy in India, with a particular focus on the South and West regions. The role will contribute to achieving the University’s international recruitment targets while ensuring that student recruitment from India remains sustainable and future-proof.
Key Responsibilities, Accountabilities and Duties
- To analyse, develop and implement the University’s student recruitment strategy in India with focus on South and West region to ensure that both the University of Surrey India-specific international recruitment targets and strategic objectives are met
- To lead on establishing, growing and maintaining the University’s reputation and profile in India.
- To support research on the India market to help inform effective and costed marketing plans.
- To work with the UK based International Market Development Manager for India on operational planning of recruitment activities in India.
- To assist with the evaluation and monitoring of projects, including production of market and periodic activity reports.
- To ensure the provision of accurate information, advice and guidance to prospective students and other key stakeholders in India on issues relating to student recruitment and admission to University of Surrey
- As part of the wider University of Surrey India student recruitment strategy, to lead and work with the International Market Development Manager for India on the strategic India recruitment agent plan.
- To lead on the development and delivery of high-quality information and training resources for Indian recruitment agents and other stakeholders. In doing so, to foster an effective working relationship with key contacts in agent offices and to be the first point of enquiry for agents India.
- To identify priority schools for engagement with; and development of relationships with those schools through a nuanced strategic engagement plan.
- To assist in the design and development of marketing collateral for an Indian audience.
- To manage, guide and support the India country officer in the delivery of recruitment activities set out in the recruitment strategy that the India country manager post holder will review and develop.
- To work with the India team to attend student recruitment events within India, offering advice and information to potential applicants, offer-holders and their influencers on the University and UK HE in general.
- To support the South Asia Regional Manager and wider India team with the management of enquiries from students and other stakeholders in India, ensuring provision of excellent levels of customer service and to ensure that all potential student leads are followed up and driven from enquiry to application and from application to registration.
- To provide advice and guidance to colleagues across the University of Surrey on key opportunities and issues concerning student recruitment in India.
- To ensure that confidentiality of information is maintained in line with data protection requirements and University Policy.
- To support academic visits to India, by organising in-country recruitment activities as directed by the Regional Manager for South Asia and providing logistical support for travelling staff
- To provide market, institution and qualifications guidance to the ISR team and to the wider university.
- To keep abreast of key policy developments that may impact on student recruitment and admissions.
- To support the provision of efficient and effective administrative, organisational and logistical support to colleagues travelling to India for student recruitment purposes.
- To build positive relationships with alumni and develop a network in support of recruitment objectives.
- To build positive relationships with school counsellors, agents, independent career counsellors, parents and other key stakeholders.
- To build positive relationships with Indian graduate recruiters and share leads with the University’s International Careers Counsellor.
- To represent the University at recruitment exhibitions, seminars, school visits and presentation events across India, involving significant domestic travel (12-16 weeks annually)
- To undertake such other duties (for the office or more widely in support of enhancing the student experience) as directed by the Regional Manager – South Asia and Director of ISR, commensurate with the level of responsibility for the role.

Experience, Skills and Competencies

years of working experience in Higher Education sector (Mandatory)
- A high level of English Language competency (IELTS 7 or equivalent)

- To possess a degree from a UK university, relevant professional qualification and/or substantial experience of delivering educational marketing activities. (

- Up to date knowledge of the UK university application process and issues facing prospective international students and their advisers in relation to university admissions.

- Excellent communication skills (written and oral) demonstrating an ability to deal with a wide range of people with varying levels of understanding, with experience and aptitude for developing and delivering engaging presentations to a variety of audiences.

- Willingness to extensively travel domestically and to the UK (typically on an annual basis) .

This post requires a substantial amount of travel within India and periodic travel to the UK for training purposes. Appointees must, therefore, be prepared to undertake such travel and to work outside regular office hours including evenings and weekends as necessary. The University operates arrangements to recognize this working pattern and to ensure an appropriate balance between working and non-working time.
