Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Transformers Industry

Location : Atlas Transformers India Limited (Por,Gidc)

Experience : 8 TO 12 YEAR

Key Responsibilities

• Mechanical Design of Power Transformers:
• Design of transformer tanks, core & coil assembly, cooling systems (radiators, fans), and other structural parts.
• Optimization for thermal performance, vibration control, and mechanical stress.
• CAD and Modeling:
• Use of software like AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo, or NX for 2D/3D modeling.
• Preparation of detailed fabrication and assembly drawings.
• Thermal & Structural Analysis:
• Perform FEA and CFD simulations to assess mechanical strength, heat dissipation, and performance under various conditions.
• Design validation through testing and simulation.
• Materials Selection:
• Choose suitable materials considering electrical insulation, thermal conductivity, mechanical strength, and cost.
• Compliance & Standards:
• Ensure design meets industry standards such as IEC, IEEE, ANSI, and customer-specific requirements.
• Cross-functional Collaboration:
• Work with electrical design engineers, manufacturing teams, suppliers, and customers.
• Provide technical support during procurement and manufacturing stages.
• Cost and Weight Optimization:
• Ensure the design is efficient in terms of both material use and manufacturability to reduce overall cost.
• Design Reviews & Documentation:
• Conduct technical reviews, maintain BOMs, design reports, and manufacturing instructions.
  

Skills & Tools Required

• Proficiency in 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD Mechanical, Creo, etc.)
• Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using ANSYS, Abaqus, or similar.
• Thermal simulations for heat dissipation and oil flow in transformers.
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes: welding, forming, machining, painting, etc.
• Familiarity with international standards (IEC, IEEE, ANSI, ISO).
• Experience in mechanical stress analysis (especially under short-circuit forces).
• Knowledge of materials used in transformer construction, such as CRGO steel, pressboard, and various insulation systems.
  

Educational Background

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 7–15 years of experience in transformer or heavy electrical equipment design.
