Job Description

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer in the Transformers Industry at Atlas Transformers India Limited (Por, Gidc), you will be responsible for the mechanical design of power transformers. This includes designing transformer tanks, core & coil assembly, cooling systems (radiators, fans), and other structural parts. Your focus will be on optimizing thermal performance, vibration control, and mechanical stress. Utilizing software like AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo, or NX for 2D/3D modeling, you will prepare detailed fabrication and assembly drawings. You will conduct FEA and CFD simulations to assess mechanical strength, heat dissipation, and performance under various conditions. Your expertise in materials selection will be crucial as you choose suitable materials considering electrical insulation, thermal conductivity, mechanical strength, and cost. Ensuring compliance with industry standards such as IEC, IEEE, ANSI, and customer-specific requirements will be a key part of your role. Collaborating cross-functionally with electrical design engineers, manufacturing teams, suppliers, and customers, you will provide technical support during procurement and manufacturing stages. Cost and weight optimization will be another aspect where you will work towards efficient material use and manufacturability to reduce overall costs. Conducting design reviews, maintaining BOMs, design reports, and manufacturing instructions will be part of your routine tasks. To excel in this role, you should possess proficiency in 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD Mechanical, Creo, etc.), experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using tools like ANSYS, Abaqus, or similar, and the ability to perform thermal simulations for heat dissipation and oil flow in transformers. Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes such as welding, forming, machining, and painting is essential. Familiarity with international standards (IEC, IEEE, ANSI, ISO) and expertise in mechanical stress analysis, especially under short-circuit forces, will be beneficial. Knowledge of materials used in transformer construction, including CRGO steel, pressboard, and various insulation systems, is required. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, along with 8 to 12 years of experience in transformer or heavy electrical equipment design. Your role will be pivotal in contributing to the design and development of cutting-edge transformer systems, ensuring they meet high-quality standards and performance requirements.,
