The
Sr Crew Operations Manager (FPD)
is responsible for overseeing the strategic and operational management of fleet personnel to ensure that vessels are crewed with competent, qualified, and well-trained seafarers. This role ensures compliance with industry regulations, manages crew welfare, optimizes recruitment and retention strategies, and fosters a positive working environment for seafarers. The position involves close coordination with ship owners, charterers, flag states, and regulatory bodies to uphold the highest crewing standards.

- Crew Recruitment & Retention
- % of vacancies filled within the required timeframe.
- Retention rate of officers and ratings.

- Compliance & Regulatory Adherence
- 100% compliance with STCW, MLC, Flag State, and company policies.
- No major non-conformities in audits or inspections related to crewing.
- Timely renewal of crew certifications, visas, and documentation.
- Crew Welfare & Performance Management
- Level of crew satisfaction (measured through feedback and surveys).
- Number of reported grievances resolved within SLA (Service Level Agreement).

Tasks
Tasks Shall Include But Not Be Limited To
- Strategic Crewing Management
- Develop and implement crewing strategies to ensure a stable and competent workforce.
- Forecast manpower requirements and plan crew changes efficiently.
- Oversee succession planning and career development for seafarers.
- Recruitment & Selection of Crew
- Supervise the recruitment and selection process for officers and ratings.
- Ensure that all crew meet qualification and certification requirements.
- Maintain relationships with manning agents and recruitment partners.
- Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure adherence to STCW, MLC, ISM, and flag state regulations.
- Maintain updated crew records, including certifications, medicals, and appraisals.
- Ensure that all crew contracts are compliant with international and company policies.
- Crew Welfare & Grievance Handling
- Implement and oversee crew welfare initiatives, including insurance, medical care, and mental well-being programs.
- Address crew grievances promptly and fairly, ensuring a good working environment.
- Ensure fair and transparent disciplinary actions in case of violations.
- Cost & Budget Control
- Prepare and manage the crew budget, optimizing crew costs without compromising quality.
- Monitor and control expenses related to crew changes, travel, and wages.
- Negotiate competitive contracts with manning agencies and service providers.
- Training & Performance Evaluation
- Develop and implement training programs to upskill officers and ratings.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and ensure constructive feedback is given.
- Monitor crew performance trends and take corrective action where needed.
- Stakeholder Coordination & Reporting
- Liaise with ship owners, charterers, and regulatory authorities on crewing matters.
- Provide regular reports on crewing KPIs, workforce planning, and budget status.
- Coordinate with fleet management and technical teams to align crewing with operational needs.
- Provide Leadership to all the functional Heads including those for Crew Management, Recruitment, and Operation Management.
Report toCrewing Head
Minimum Experience
5-6 years’ experience in maritime crewing, with at least 3 years in a senior managerial role.
Minimum Qualifications
Master Or Chief Engineer’s Certificate of Competency
