- Analyze existing MS Access databases to understand data structures, relationships, queries, forms, reports, and VBA code.
- Design and implement optimized SQL Server database schemas, including tables, views, stored procedures, and functions, to replace Access functionality.
- Develop and execute data migration strategies, including ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, to transfer data from Access to SQL Server.
- Ensure data integrity and consistency throughout the migration, implementing validation checks and reconciliation procedures.
- Refactor or rewrite VBA code from Access forms and reports into appropriate SQL Server or application-level solutions.
- Optimize SQL Server database performance through indexing, query tuning, and other best practices.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, developers, and end-users to gather requirements, provide technical guidance, and ensure a smooth transition.
- Document database designs, migration processes, and any new functionalities implemented in SQL Server.
- Provide support and troubleshooting for issues arising during and after the migration.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience in designing, developing, and maintaining complex MS Access databases, including VBA programming.
- Strong proficiency in SQL Server database development and administration, including T-SQL, schema design, and performance tuning.
- Experience with data migration methodologies and tools.
- Understanding of relational database concepts and data modeling.
- Ability to analyze and transform data effectively.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
