ROLE: PRODUCT DESIGNER Job Overview: As a Product Designer, you will be responsible for the design and development of luxury tableware, crockery, and homeware. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to create products that are not only aesthetically stunning but also functional, durable, and aligned with our brand’s high standards. From concept ideation to the final prototype, your role will involve designing, testing, and supporting the production process, with a keen focus on sizes, materials, colour matching, and the overall product experience. ________________________________________ Key Responsibilities: • Lead the design process for new tableware and homeware collections, ensuring that the designs meet the brand's luxury standards. Create initial concepts, develop them into refined designs, and prepare them for production. • Ensure proper sizing for dinnerware, including plates, bowls, serving pieces, and other homeware. Understand how size variations impact both functionality and aesthetics, and maintain consistency across different product models. • Conduct thorough research into materials—such as fine porcelain, bone china, glass, and metals—ensuring that selected materials meet our quality and aesthetic standards. Test materials to ensure durability, finish, and compatibility with manufacturing processes. • Work closely with the production team to achieve perfect colour matching and finishes for each collection. Ensure consistency in colour and texture across various pieces, from dinner plates to decorative homeware. • Develop initial design concepts that align with the brand’s vision, and refine these concepts through iterative feedback, prototype testing, and design revisions. Transition concepts into final design stages, ensuring they meet both aesthetic and functional requirements. • Oversee the creation of prototypes, working closely with manufacturers to ensure the final product reflects your design vision. Make adjustments as needed based on testing and production feedback to ensure quality control. • Act as a liaison between design and production teams to ensure that your designs are accurately translated into high-quality, mass-produced items. Provide guidance during production, ensuring adherence to design specifications. • Ensure that all pieces within a collection are cohesive in design, size, and material choices, maintaining a consistent look and feel across dinnerware sets and homeware collections. • Have an in-depth understanding of various product models and their specifications, ensuring designs are adaptable for different product lines and models while maintaining consistency in quality and luxury appeal. ________________________________________ Qualifications & Skills: • A minimum of 4 years of experience in product design, preferably in luxury homeware, tableware, or crockery. Experience in designing high-end, artisanal products is a plus. • A strong portfolio demonstrating a refined design sensibility, creativity, and technical skill in product design, particularly in tableware or homeware. The portfolio should showcase a variety of designs, with an emphasis on material knowledge, sizing, and final product prototypes. • Proficiency in design software Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, Coral Draw, InDesign) • Strong knowledge of luxury materials such as porcelain, bone china, ceramic, glass, and metals, along with an understanding of their properties and testing methods. • Ability to refine and perfect design details, including size specifications, color matching, and finishing touches, ensuring the final product is both beautiful and functional. • Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with artisans, production teams, and other departments. Ability to clearly articulate design ideas and vision. • Ability to troubleshoot design issues during the prototyping and production phases, finding innovative solutions to ensure that designs meet both aesthetic and functional requirements. • Familiarity with the production processes for luxury tableware and homeware, particularly in ceramics and glass, and the ability to support the transition from design to production. ________________________________________ Preferred Qualifications: • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related field. • Experience working with luxury brands or in the high-end homeware industry. • Familiarity with the sustainability aspects of materials and production processes in luxury goods. • An understanding of global design trends and the ability to incorporate them into bespoke designs for a high-end clientele.
