General Description
We are seeking an experienced Construction Health and Safety Manager to oversee all health, safety, and environmental aspects of the power infrastructure build-out for a greenfield data centre in India. This role will sit with the client’s project management team and act as the single point of contact for HSE activities across multiple contractors and vendors. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with Indian statutory requirements, international best practices (ISO 45001, NEBOSH), and the client’s global safety standards while supporting smooth, on-schedule delivery of power infrastructure including electrical transformers, switchgear, cabling, generators, and related structural and civil works.
Role And Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain the project Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) plan in alignment with client policy and local regulations
- Conduct regular risk assessments, job safety analyses (JSAs), and site safety inspections for all power infrastructure activities
- Lead pre-construction HSE reviews of engineering designs, procurement packages, and construction methodologies
- Coordinate and chair weekly/bi-weekly safety coordination meetings with contractors, subcontractors, and site management
- Deliver toolbox talks, specialized training (electrical hazards, working at height, confined spaces), and emergency response drills
- Monitor and report on leading and lagging safety indicators; track corrective actions and close-out non-conformances
- Investigate incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions; prepare root-cause analyses and corrective/preventive action plans
- Liaise with local authorities, statutory inspectors, and third-party auditors to secure permits and demonstrate regulatory compliance
- Champion a positive safety culture through visible leadership, site walkdowns, and recognition of safe working practices
- Support contractor pre-qualification and evaluation processes to ensure HSE competency before site mobilization
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or related discipline
- NEBOSH International Diploma, IOSH Managing Safely, or equivalent certification
- Minimum 8–10 years of hands-on HSE management experience in high-voltage power infrastructure or large-scale industrial construction
- Proven track record on data centre or mission-critical facilities projects, including transformer yards, switchgear installation, and generator house construction
- Deep knowledge of Indian Factory Act, Electricity Act, national electricity rules, and state pollution control board norms
- Familiarity with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001 frameworks
- Strong communication skills in English; Hindi or a regional language is an advantage
- Demonstrated ability to influence multi-disciplinary teams and drive safety performance improvements
- Proficiency in HSE software tools (incident management, audit checklists, permit-to-work systems) and MS Office suite
- Willingness to be on-site full time and travel between data centre campuses as required
