Job Description

As a Senior Director, Employment Counsel you will provide advice and manage the legal function with respect to employment law and litigation throughout TaskUs operations in Asia, focusing on India, Philippines, Japan, Malaysia and Taiwan, as well as South Africa and other global markets.

This role will support the TaskUs Legal Department s objective in providing strategic advice on employment issues and to manage and direct civil, employment, and other litigation.

This position will report to the DVP of Legal, Global Head of Litigation, Employment, and Privacy.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide business-oriented and practical counsel and guidance to human resources, operations, and other teams on various labor and employment laws as well as strategies for risk mitigation.

  • Evaluate and provide tactical and strategic advice and manage pre-litigation, litigation, regulatory proceedings, and related matters.

  • Manage outside counsel on a variety of litigation and employment related matters, and ensure outside counsel is tracking to budget and maintain internal reporting regarding employment and litigation matters.

  • Work with senior TaskUs management on expansion into international markets, identifying country-specific risks.
  • Advice and/or negotiate as appropriate the resolution of employment related disputes and claims.

  • Monitor and manage the companys global employee hotline. Audit and monitor investigation closure reports, provide analysis and trends, organize and lead review meetings, identify publish periodic dashboard for the HR team, organize meetings and discuss various trends and analysis related to complaints

  • Draft, review and/or approve employment-related documents, such as employment contracts, settlement agreements, policies, procedures, etc.

  • Develop and deliver training on relevant labor laws and issues across India, and other geographies across Asia and Africa.

  • Review and provide legal guidance and support to Notice to Explain, Notice of Decision and other disciplinary processes.

  • Assist with periodic legal reviews of and updates on employment agreement templates, employment practices and arrangements, and company policies and procedures.

  • Support and lead investigation processes on various labor and fraud matters, including investigating employee/business concerns, and supervising/reviewing investigations and reports.

  • Serve as Legal representative on global projects, initiatives, expansion, and developments globally.

  • Research, monitor and analyze relevant laws and regulations and advise relevant management of such developments.
  • Manage, mentor and support a team of attorneys located in India and the Philippines.

  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned/required from time to time.

Requirements:

  • Bar admission and in good standing to practice law in India or the Philippines.

  • 8+ years of experience in handling global employment law matters and litigation in an in-house legal department or with an elite law firm.

  • Exemplary written, oral, and interpersonal skills and attention to detail.

  • Experience managing a team, preferably across different geographies.
  • Excellent and professional command of the English language in a written and verbal capacity.
  • Ability to appreciate the business side of a transaction, as well as the legal - and balance appropriately.

  • Experience of managing and advising on a company s employee hotline program is a plus.

  • Experience in working with BPOs, KPOs, BPM, IT/ITES companies is a plus.

  • Provide accurate, reasoned and concise advice on short notice without undue reliance on outside counsel.

  • Ability to think outside the box and anticipate internal and external business issues and able to manage multiple, competing projects and maintain a strong focus on detail.

  • Must possess the self-confidence to make decisions and follow through with peers and management.

  • Soft skills: Problem solving aptitude, strong ethics, good sense of humor, ability to adapt, ability to unlearn and learn, and a strong team player.
