Senior COBOL Developer – IBM z/OS Mainframe (Performance Focus)

We are seeking a Senior COBOL Developer with strong expertise in developing and maintaining mission-critical, enterprise-grade applications on IBM z/OS Mainframe systems. The successful candidate will have deep experience working with VSAM and Db2 databases, as well as a proven track record in performance optimization within high-volume environments.

Essential Skills

Design, develop, and maintain mission-critical, enterprise-grade COBOL applications that interact with VSAM datasets and Db2 databases.
Analyze and improve performance of complex mainframe programs, with a focus on efficient data access and throughput.
Create and optimize SQL queries and access paths for Db2 to support high-performance transaction and batch processing.
Maintain and manage VSAM clusters and ensure efficient data retrieval and storage operations.
Collaborate with system architects, business analysts, and QA teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and maintainable solutions.
Support and troubleshoot production issues related to data access, performance, and batch execution.
Document technical designs, workflows, and system configurations.

Minimum Requirements:

7+ years of experience developing COBOL applications on IBM z/OS Mainframe.
Strong expertise with VSAM (KSDS, ESDS, RRDS) and Db2 (SQL, DCLGEN, BIND/REBIND).
Proficient in JCL, utilities (IDCAMS, IEBGENER, SORT, etc.), and integration with batch processes.
Experience in performance tuning of COBOL applications, especially regarding I/O efficiency, Db2 access paths, and indexing strategies.
Familiarity with tools such as File-AID, IBM Debug Tool/Expeditor, Endevor, and SPUFI/DSNTEP2.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
