Position Overview

The Sales Assistant plays a vital role in delivering an exceptional customer experience, driving sales, and representing the brand with professionalism and integrity. In the jewellery industry, this role demands strong product knowledge, high attention to detail, and the ability to build trust with customers seeking valuable and often emotional purchases.

Key Responsibilities

1. Customer Service & Sales

• Greet customers warmly and understand their needs through active listening.
  
• Demonstrate and explain product features, craftsmanship, purity, weight, designs, and pricing.
  
• Recommend products that match customer preferences, occasions, and budgets.
  
• Assist customers in comparing options and making informed purchase decisions.
  
• Cross-sell and upsell complementary items such as rings, bangles, chains, and diamond accessories.
  
• Handle customer objections professionally and close sales effectively.
  

2. Product & Inventory Handling

• Ensure proper display of gold, diamond, silver, and gemstone jewellery as per visual merchandising standards.
  
• Maintain accurate knowledge of

  purity (22K/24K), hallmarking, diamond quality parameters (4Cs), gemstone properties

  , and pricing logic.
• Handle jewellery pieces carefully to avoid damage, loss, or misplacement.
  
• Support stock counting, tagging, barcoding, and maintaining updated inventory records.
  
• Coordinate with the store manager for replenishment needs.
  

3. Billing & Documentation

• Support the cashier in preparing accurate bills, including making charges, wastage, discounts, GST, and offers.
  
• Assist in generating certification documents for diamonds and gemstones.
  
• Ensure accurate completion of KYC documentation for gold purchase/exchange transactions.
  

4. Customer Relationship Management

• Build long-term relationships with customers by offering personalised service.
  
• Collect and update customer data in CRM systems.
  
• Follow up with potential and existing customers during festivals, anniversaries, and special promotions.
  
• Address customer concerns and escalate issues when required.
  

5. Store Upkeep

• Maintain cleanliness, organisation, and hygiene of the sales counters, showcases, and store environment.
  
• Ensure proper lighting, arrangement of displays, and security protocols.
  
• Refill display counters at opening and secure jewellery properly at closing.
  

Skills & Competencies Required

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  
• Strong customer handling and persuasion skills.
  
• High attention to detail and a sense of responsibility (as the job involves handling valuables).
  
• Good product knowledgepurity, diamond grading, trends, and craftsmanship.
  
• Basic computer skills for billing, CRM, and stock management.

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum 13 years of experience in retail, preferably in jewellery, fashion, or luxury goods.
  
• Higher Secondary or graduate-level education preferred.
  
• Training in jewellery sales, diamond basics, or customer service is an added advantage.
  

Work Environment

• Retail showroom environment with customer-facing responsibilities.
  
• Requires long hours of standing, especially during weekends and festive seasons.
  
• High-paced environment with peak demand during festivals, wedding seasons, and promotional events.
