The Role
The Product Owner is responsible for leading the Core Finance Product team to define and realise value-adding Product strategies and roadmaps. They are a key interface into Business stakeholders, shaping high-level user requirements and ensuring their timely delivery in line with wider Business priorities and agreed roadmaps. They are accountable for the performance of their Product, ensuring they make meaningful and sustained improvements to overall performance
The Product Owner oversees an organisation of around 4-8 colleagues, all of which are direct reports (based in India, UK, Czechia, Germany). The Product Owner reports into the Product Stream Lead.
The Product Owner is responsible for defining and managing the IS Product vision, strategy, and end-to-end delivery across the full Product lifecycle in partnership with the relevant Business stakeholders. They are focussed on maximising Business value by building useful and robust customer/Business-facing solutions and services. They lead the Core Finance Product team to fulfil Business needs by delivering new Product increment. The core systems currently operated are SAP ECC, but within the ERP landscape are entities operating on Kingdee, MSD and MAPICs. The roadmap to S4 HANA is under development.
  • Partners with key Business stakeholders to shape high-level Business requirements and define valuable Product strategies that are aligned with wider Business goals and priorities, in collaboration with the Product Stream Lead.
  • Manages the Product team to deliver the Product roadmap, delivering valuable, robust, and secure technology solutions for the Business.
  • Acts as key interlock to the Business, partnering with key Business stakeholders to translate their needs into high-level Product requirements (e.g., Epics, Features). Priorities and manages the Product backlog.
  • Responsible for security, compliance, and risk management for their respective Product.
  • Accountable for overall Product performance (e.g., delivery velocity, escalated issued resolution, Product roadmap realisation).
  • Acts as an escalation point for the Product teams and Business in relation to Product performance.
  • Works with the Product Manager and Portfolio function to align Product capacity with relevant Portfolio items.
  • Supports Solution Architects in shaping cross-Product solutions, ensuring inter-Product dependencies to deliver larger, integrated solutions are properly accounted for within their respective Product.
  • Develops a continuous improvement culture within the Product team, encouraging the team to make meaningful improvements to overall Product performance.
  • Advise Business and IS stakeholders on the latest technology developments to inform potential functional opportunities.
To succeed, you will need
  • Comprehensive experience managing IT delivery from requirements elicitation to code deployment, demonstrated by c10 years relevant industry experience.
  • Business experience in a financial management role, accountancy qualifications are beneficial but not essential.
  • Proven track record in defining and executing valuable Product strategies, realising tangible benefits for the Business.
  • Expertise in finance functional domains and their associated application stack (e.g. SAP ECC, Esker, S4 HANA, concur, BW).
  • Evidenced ability to develop and maintain relationships with senior Business stakeholders (VP-1, VP-2), translating their high-level requirements into workable solutions.
  • Team leadership and change management experience .
  • Strong ability to convey complex technology ideas to non-conversant audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for developing Product use cases and determining their associated value.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to influence stakeholders, aligning on competing priorities and guiding Business teams on the feasibility of requests vs. technology constraints.
  • Good understanding of Product performance measures and metrics, with evidenced ability to improve overall Product performance (e.g., defect rate, downtime, team productivity, KPI uplift, ROI, impact on P&L)
  • Knowledgeable in the practical application of Agile methodologies and frameworks (e.g., Scrum), with demonstrable experience of upskilling teams in Agile.
