Job Title: Print Solution Engineer (Cloud Print)
Department: Engineering / Solutions Architecture
Reports To: Solutions Architect or Engineering Manager
Location: Remote
Employment Type: Full-Time
Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Print Solution Engineer to join our cloud-based print technology team. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in cloud printing architectures, print management systems, and integration of hardware-software ecosystems. You will play a key role in designing, developing, and supporting scalable, secure, and user-friendly cloud print solutions that enable seamless printing across diverse devices, operating systems, and enterprise environments. This role requires a strong technical foundation, hands-on experience with print protocols, and a passion for innovation in digital document workflows.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain cloud-native print solutions that support secure, reliable, and scalable printing across Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android platforms.
- Architect and implement cloud print gateways and connectors that integrate with on-premise printers, MFPs (Multi-Function Printers), and third-party print management systems.
- Develop and maintain APIs and middleware for device discovery, print job routing, authentication, and status monitoring in distributed environments.
- Collaborate with product managers, UX designers, and backend engineers to deliver end-to-end print experiences with minimal user friction.
- Ensure compliance with enterprise security standards, including data encryption, user authentication, print job auditing, and access control.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex print-related issues in production environments, including driver compatibility, network connectivity, and spooling failures.
- Integrate with enterprise identity providers (e.g., Azure AD, Okta, SAML) and support zero-trust printing models.
- Work closely with hardware vendors to validate and optimize print drivers, firmware, and device APIs for cloud print compatibility.
- Develop and maintain documentation, deployment guides, and troubleshooting resources for internal teams and customers.
- Stay current with evolving print standards (e.g., IPP, IPPS, CUPS, PJL) and cloud printing frameworks (e.g., Google Cloud Print legacy, Microsoft Print Management, Apple AirPrint).
- Contribute to proof-of-concepts, technical evaluations, and product roadmaps for next-generation print services.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in print system development, print driver engineering, or cloud print solution architecture.
- Proven experience with cloud-based print platforms (e.g., Printix, Google Cloud Print, Microsoft Print Management, or similar).
- Strong knowledge of print protocols: IPP (Internet Printing Protocol), IPPS, CUPS, PJL, PCL, PostScript, and PDF.
- Hands-on experience with backend technologies such as Node.js, .NET, Java, or Python for building print service APIs.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP), containerization (Docker), and CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with device management platforms (MDM, Intune, Jamf) and enterprise mobility solutions.
- Strong understanding of security principles, including TLS/SSL, OAuth, JWT, and secure print release.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex print issues across heterogeneous environments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with print hardware vendors (e.g., HP, Canon, Xerox, Brother) or print management software (e.g., PaperCut, Print Management Software).
- Knowledge of enterprise print policies, secure printing, pull printing, and print auditing.
- Contributions to open-source print projects or technical documentation.
- Experience leading technical initiatives or mentoring junior engineers in print-related domains.
