Network Monitoring Engineer

A Network Monitoring Engineer is responsible for continuously monitoring an organizations network infrastructure to ensure high availability, performance, and security. The role involves identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving network issues proactively to minimize downtime and service disruptions.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

• Monitor network performance and availability using monitoring tools (NMS, SNMP, SolarWinds, Nagios, Zabbix, etc.)
  
• Detect, analyze, and troubleshoot network issues such as latency, packet loss, link failures, and device outages
  
• Perform first-level (L1/L2) network support and escalate issues to L3/network architects when required
  
• Monitor routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, WAN links, and wireless networks
  
• Respond to alerts, incidents, and service requests as per SLA
  
• Maintain network uptime and ensure proactive issue resolution
  
• Perform basic configuration and changes under change management process
  
• Analyze logs, alerts, and performance metrics to identify root cause
  
• Coordinate with ISPs, vendors, and internal teams during network outages
  

Required Skills & Knowledge

• Strong understanding of TCP/IP, LAN, WAN, DNS, DHCP, VPN
  
• Knowledge of networking devices (Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, etc.)
  
• Experience with monitoring tools (SolarWinds, Nagios, Zabbix, PRTG, etc.)
  
• Basic knowledge of firewalls and security concepts
  
• Good troubleshooting and analytical skills
  
• Ability to work in shifts and handle high-pressure situations
  
• Good communication and documentation skills
