About the role
The L1 Network Engineer is responsible for providing initial, first-level technical support for networking incidents and requests, ensuring the continuous and efficient operation of the organizational network. This role involves proactive network monitoring, prompt incident response, basic troubleshooting, and timely escalation of complex issues to higher-level support teams (L2/L3).
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Implementation: Plan, schedule, and execute complex network changes, configurations, and upgrades across the environment (e.g., implementing OSPF/BGP changes, configuring VPN tunnels, QoS adjustments).
Configuration Support: Assist senior engineers with routine configuration tasks under direct supervision (e.g., port activation/deactivation, basic VLAN configuration).
Validation: Develop and execute comprehensive test plans for all network changes to ensure minimal disruption and adherence to design specifications.

Security Configuration: Manage and maintain network security devices, including configuring firewall policies (ACLs, NAT), intrusion prevention systems (IPS), and VPN configurations.
Asset Management: Maintain and update network hardware and software inventory, ensuring all assets are correctly tracked.
Documentation: Maintain up-to-date network documentation, including creating and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and troubleshooting guides.
Qualifications
Experience: 2-4 years of experience in network support or network implementation.
Technical Skills
Routing: Deep expertise in OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP (including route-maps, redistribution, path manipulation).
Switching: Mastery of VLANs, STP (Spanning Tree Protocol) variations (RSTP/MSTP), HSRP/VRRP, and EtherChannel/LAG.
Firewalls: Hands-on experience with major firewall platforms (e.g., Palo Alto, Cisco ASA/FTD, Fortinet) including complex policy management, NAT configuration, and VPN tunnel creation (Site-to-Site, Remote Access).
Scripting (Preferred): Familiarity with network automation tools or basic scripting (e.g., Python, Ansible) to perform repetitive tasks.
Hardware: Familiarity with Cisco/Juniper/HPE or similar vendor hardware (Routers, Switches, Firewalls).
