Position Overview


  • The National Sales Lead Oncology will be responsible for spearheading the national sales function, driving revenue growth, enhancing market penetration, and developing a high-performing sales organization across India.
  • This strategic role involves designing and executing national sales strategies, fostering cross-functional collaboration, and ensuring full compliance with ethical and regulatory standards.

Core Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute a robust national oncology sales strategy in alignment with business unit objectives.
  • Define, cascade, and monitor national and regional sales targets to ensure performance consistency and goal achievement.
  • Drive long-term growth through proactive market opportunity mapping and account development strategies.

Performance Management

  • Monitor and review regional sales performance through structured KPIs and dashboards.
  • Implement timely and effective corrective actions where necessary.
  • Standardize processes to enhance sales force effectiveness (SFE) nationwide.

Collaboration & Alignment

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams (Marketing, Medical, Training, Market Access) to ensure cohesive execution of brand plans and strategic initiatives.
  • Provide field insights to shape marketing and medical strategies.
  • Represent the sales function in business planning, budgeting, and audit discussions.

People Development

  • Coach and mentor Regional Sales Managers, identifying skill gaps and enabling their professional development.
  • Promote a high-performance culture through structured coaching, feedback, and training interventions.
  • Lead recruitment and retention efforts to build and sustain a highly engaged sales team.

Sales Execution & Compliance


  • Lead by example on key SFE parameters call coverage, joint field visits, expense discipline, and reporting accuracy.
  • Ensure ethical sales practices and strict adherence to compliance, regulatory, and promotional standards.
  • Optimize field resources and promotional activities based on territory and account potential.

Key Accountabilities


  1. Define national direction for the sales team to establish leadership in the oncology therapy area.
  2. Equip RSMs with the right tools, performance metrics, and support systems.
  3. Establish clear communication channels and planning frameworks across regions.
  4. Proactively manage business risks including policy shifts, pricing changes, or supply disruptions.
  5. Build and maintain strong relationships with national key opinion leaders (KOLs), distribution partners, and institutions.
  6. Ensure transparent and unbiased team management through performance-based coaching and structured talent assessments.
  7. Lead national-level scientific engagement planning and execution.
  8. Collaborate on organizational-level projects, audits, and operational reviews.
  9. Foster a values-driven culture rooted in integrity, compliance, and performance excellence.

Candidate Profile

Education & Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, or related field (Mandatory)
  • MBA from a Tier-1 institute (Preferred)
  • Minimum 12 years of experience in pharmaceutical sales
  • At least 5 years of experience managing large, Pan-India teams
  • Prior experience in Oncology (Strongly Preferred)
  • P&L management exposure is an added advantage
