Mainframe Developer – Banking Domain (Part-Time, 3–5 Hours Daily)

Role Description

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Developer with expertise in COBOL, JCL, CICS, and DB2 to join our banking technology team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in developing, maintaining, and enhancing mainframe applications, with exposure to financial/banking systems. Familiarity with VSAM and web service integration on CICS will be an added advantage.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, JCL, and CICS.

Work on CICS transactions and web service calls to support banking applications.

Write and optimize SQL queries for DB2, ensuring performance and scalability.

Conduct batch job scheduling and automation using JCL.

Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve production issues within SLA.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support application integration and data migration.

Participate in requirement analysis, technical design, and code reviews.

Ensure adherence to banking compliance, security, and performance standards.

Required Skills & Experience

Strong programming experience in COBOL and JCL.

Proficiency in CICS (including webservice integration).

Hands-on knowledge of DB2 (queries, stored procedures, performance tuning).

Basic working knowledge of VSAM files.

Good understanding of mainframe debugging tools (e.g., Abend-Aid, File-Aid, XPEDITER).

Knowledge of banking/financial applications such as payments, deposits, or core banking systems.

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Good to Have

Knowledge of Agile methodologies and tools like JIRA.

Exposure to modernization initiatives (e.g., migrating from mainframe to distributed/cloud systems).

Experience in testing tools and automation frameworks for mainframe.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

7–10 years of relevant experience in mainframe development, preferably in the banking domain.
