Summary
The Lead Design Engineer – BIW will be responsible for leading the design and development of Body-in-White components and assemblies using CATIA V5/V6. This role supports one of Goken’s premier automotive clients, known for its innovative approach to electric vehicle design and engineering excellence. The engineer will ensure that BIW systems meet safety, durability, and performance standards, while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, production-feasible designs aligned with program timelines and targets.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of BIW sheet metal components and assemblies, including body side outer, body side structure, front structure, and underbody.
- Ensure designs meet performance, safety, weight, and cost objectives.
- Develop and validate 3D CAD models and 2D drawings in CATIA V5/V6, ensuring compliance with OEM standards and GD&T practices.
- Collaborate with CAE, manufacturing, and design teams to integrate simulation feedback and enhance structural integrity.
- Review and refine BIW concepts for manufacturing feasibility and cost optimization.
- Coordinate between Goken’s client and onshore engineering teams to align on requirements, priorities, and delivery schedules.
- Interpret CAE analysis results and incorporate improvements to optimize structural performance.
- Support CAD data release and documentation as per program milestones.
- Mentor junior engineers and promote the use of industry best practices in BIW design and development.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
- 8–10 years of experience in Body-in-White design and development within the automotive industry.
- Proficiency in CATIA V5/V6 (Part Design, Assembly Design, Surface Design, and Drafting).
- Strong understanding of sheet metal design, joining technologies, GD&T, and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to interpret and apply CAE/FEA recommendations to improve design quality.
- Familiarity with automotive product development cycles and CAD data release processes.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and coordination skills for cross-functional collaboration.
- Experience in EV body structure development or working with global OEMs is preferred.
