Lead Design - Arena

Purpose/Objective

The Design Management & Approvals Architect will serve as the strategic custodian of design excellence, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder coordination for one of the State-of-the-art Multipurpose Arena Precinct in the region. This role demands a visionary professional who can balance architectural creativity, technical rigor, and approval processes across multiple authorities, ensuring the project achieves world-class standards in design, sustainability, and operational efficiency. This position will report to Head – Design Functionally and Project Development Head Administratively.

Key Responsibilities of Role

Purpose: The Design Management & Approvals Architect will serve as the strategic custodian of design excellence, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder coordination for one of the State-of-the-art Multipurpose Arena Precinct in the region. This role demands a visionary professional who can balance architectural creativity, technical rigor, and approval processes across multiple authorities, ensuring the project achieves world-class standards in design, sustainability, and operational efficiency. This position will report to Head – Design Functionally and Project Development Head Administratively. Roles and Responsibilities: Lead and oversee architectural design initiatives for State-of-the-art Multipurpose Arena Precinct and associated retail. Ensure adherence to regulatory standards, building codes, and sustainability principles in all design activities. Identify design and approval risks early, propose mitigation strategies and maintain compliance with project timelines. Lead the design approvals process for the respective asset across all stages of development, overseeing the process and performance of any appointed statutory consultants. Coordinate with consultants and authorities to obtain all necessary statutory approvals for project execution within the agreed timeline. Review and validate design deliverables including integration with overall masterplan, sustainability features, cross-trade coordination/ integration etc. Integrate SMART building technologies, Green accreditation certifications and future ready design strategies. Establish benchmarks for qualities of design delivery, safety and operational efficiency across all phases. Prepare and issue Request for Proposals (RFPs) for design consultants and vendors. Oversee preparation and review of GFC drawings to ensure accuracy and completeness. Drive value engineering initiatives to optimize design solutions without compromising quality or functionality Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of design concepts. Implement and manage Building Information Modeling (BIM) processes for design coordination and clash detection Provide strategic guidance and innovative design solutions – in terms of current and future trends in Arena and Retail Design to enhance the aesthetic and functional aspects of projects. Supervise and mentor junior architects in the team to foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment. Conduct regular site visits and participate in project meetings to monitor progress and address any design-related challenges. Contribute to the continuous improvement of design processes and methodologies to optimize project outcomes. Weekly and periodic reportage in terms of design and design management.

Qualifications and Experience

Experience: 15-18 years of professional experience in architectural design, design management and regulatory approvals across large scale retail, mixed use and entertainment projects etc. with a minimum of 7 years of specialized expertise in Mixed use multipurpose Arena, Convention Centre, Exhibition Hall projects. Proven track record in leading full-cycle projects from concept development to on-site completion and handover. Experience in multi-Stakeholder and regulatory - statutory design-related approvals across various design stages. Education Qualification: Bachelor of Architecture from a recognized institution. Preferred: M. Arch from reputed institutes such as CEPT University and School of Planning & Architecture (SPA). Certification Required: No specific certifications required, but relevant certifications in architectural design, management are advantageous. Behavioral Skills: Exceptional leadership and communication skills. Skilled at building trust, consensus among all stake-holders and confident in securing approval and agreements by balancing regulatory compliances with project objectives. Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail. Ability to thrive in a collaborative, deadline-driven environment. Resilience and persistence to navigate complex approval process and maintain momentum. Awareness of local context, consumer behavior and cultural nuances in shaping the mall experience. Technical Skills: Proficiency in architectural design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, SketchUp, MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Power BI) Strong knowledge of local building codes and international standards. Demonstrated technical expertise in developing and reviewing architectural concepts for Multipurpose arena, Sports arena, Convention Centre, Retail projects. Proficiency in project management and design management tools, Cloud-based document management platforms. Comprehensive understanding of building materials, construction techniques, and sustainable design practices. Non-Negotiable Skills: Architectural Design for entertainment & retail-led mixed-use development Multipurpose Arena, Convention Center and Retail design experience At least one full cycle of experience from concept development to on-site completion/ handover for Convention center, Exhibition Halls, Arena etc. Technical and soft coordination skills working with Principal as well as Executive Umbrella Architect consortium/ EPC model. Agility to adapt to evolving design trends, tenant requirements, dynamics of real estate and regulatory framework. Conclusion: Specialization in Sports Arena/ Convention Centre, Exhibition Hall and Mixed-use retail Design are central to this role, requiring demonstrated expertise in conceiving, managing, and delivering largescale retail mall projects with deep knowledge of current and emerging trends such as experiential architecture, sustainability, smart building systems, and physical-digital integration. The successful candidate will possess the ability to anticipate future shifts in consumer behavior and translate them into adaptive, futureready design strategies that ensure the mall remains a landmark destination
