LAB TECHNICIAN – ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES (Female)Job Description – Hospital Laboratory Department1. Sample Collection & HandlingCollect blood, urine, stool, sputum, swabs, and other clinical samples following strict aseptic techniques. Verify patient identity before sample collection. Label samples accurately with patient details, date, and time. Ensure proper storage and transport of samples to maintain quality. 2. Laboratory Testing & AnalysisPerform routine biochemical, hematological, microbiology, and immunology tests as per protocols. Operate and maintain lab equipment like analyzers, microscopes, centrifuges, etc. Ensure quality control and calibration of machines daily. Follow NABH / hospital guidelines for testing accuracy. 3. Reporting & DocumentationEnter test results accurately in the Laboratory Information System (LIS/HMIS). Double-check results before releasing reports. Maintain daily logs, registers, and quality records. Inform the physician or concerned department immediately in case of critical values. 4. Infection Control & SafetyFollow all infection control protocols, PPE usage, and biomedical waste segregation. Handle specimens safely to avoid contamination and exposure. Ensure regular sanitization of lab work areas. 5. Equipment MaintenancePerform routine maintenance and cleaning of laboratory instruments. Report any equipment malfunction to the Lab Incharge/Manager. Maintain calibration records as per standards. 6. Stock & Inventory ManagementMonitor stock of reagents, chemicals, and consumables. Inform Lab Incharge/Store for timely replenishment. Maintain proper storage conditions for reagents. 7. Patient Care & Professional ConductTreat patients with courtesy, empathy, and professionalism. Provide pre-test and post-test instructions to patients when required. Maintain patient confidentiality at all times. 8. Compliance & Quality AssuranceFollow hospital and NABL/NABH standards for lab operations. Participate in internal and external quality assurance programs (IQC/EQC). Attend departmental meetings and training programs. 9. Additional ResponsibilitiesAssist senior technicians and pathologists during special tests.
