Role Summary
This is a plant-based HR & Administration role responsible for labour and contractual workforce management, HR operations for workers and staff, plant administration, and statutory compliance in a ferro alloys manufacturing environment. The role supports smooth 247 shift operations and ensures people processes, documentation, and compliance are executed rigorously.
Mandatory: Candidates must have prior HR/Admin experience in a ferro alloys plant only. Experience from any other industry is not acceptable.
Key Responsibilities
A. HR Operations Plant Workforce
- Handle end-to-end HR processes for workmen, contract labour, and staff at the ferro alloys plant.
- Manage attendance, timekeeping, and shift rosters for 247 furnace operations (3-shift system, weekly offs, overtime, relievers).
- Coordinate recruitment and onboarding for workmen, contract labour, and staff roles in consultation with plant HODs and corporate HR (as applicable).
- Maintain and update employee personal files, service records, ID cards, nomination forms, muster roll support documents, and HR trackers.
- Ensure timely joining formalities, background documentation, and deployment readiness (medical fitness, ID/access, basic induction).
- Oversee induction and basic training coordination: safety induction, plant rules, POSH awareness, code of conduct, and attendance for trainings.
- Support shift-based discipline: leave tracking, absenteeism monitoring, overtime control, and manpower deployment coordination during shutdowns/unloadings.
B. Contract Labour & Statutory Compliance
- Manage contract labour engagement and documentation in line with applicable requirements such as the Factories Act and Contract Labour (Regulation & Abolition) Act (CLRA).
- Ensure contractors maintain proper muster rolls, wage registers, registers of workmen employed, proof of wage payment, ESI/EPF compliance, and other statutory documentation.
- Prepare, maintain, and display statutory registers, returns, and notices under applicable labour laws (indicative):

- Other applicable state rules / notifications
- Coordinate with statutory authorities, inspectors, and auditors during inspections/visits; ensure documentation readiness and timely closure of observations.
- Track contractor licence validity, renewals, and compliance timelines; ensure on-time submission of required returns and documentation.
C. Payroll, Benefits & Welfare
- Collate and validate attendance, overtime, and shift allowance data for accurate payroll processing (in coordination with Accounts/HO).
- Support implementation of wage revisions, increments, and statutory benefits for workers and staff as per policy.
- Handle ESIC, EPF, gratuity, leave, and benefits-related queries; maintain supporting documentation and follow-ups with relevant bodies/vendors.
- Support welfare initiatives relevant to plant workforce: health camps, PPE distribution, canteen improvements, uniforms, seasonal drives, festivals and engagement events.
- Coordinate with Safety/Medical teams (as applicable) for records related to inductions, medical fitness, and welfare activities.
D. Plant Administration
- Oversee plant administration facilities and services: canteen, housekeeping, security coordination, transport, guest house/hostel (if applicable), uniforms/PPE distribution, and admin-related upkeep.
- Coordinate transport arrangements for workers and staff (buses/company vehicles), ensuring safety, punctuality, and route discipline.
- Manage gate passes, visitor management, and access control processes in coordination with security.
- Liaise with local vendors for admin supplies and services (stationery, housekeeping materials, minor repairs, drinking water, etc.) in line with company policy and approvals.
- Support site-level admin reporting: vendor performance, service quality issues, and improvement actions.
E. Employee Relations & Communication
- Act as the first point of contact for workers and staff queries; handle basic grievances and escalate to management where required.
- Assist in disciplinary matters in coordination with senior HR/plant management, ensuring documentation, notices, and enquiry processes are handled properly.
- Support communication of plant policies, safety rules, HR circulars, and announcements to workers and staff, including local language communication where needed.
- Promote discipline, attendance control, and a respectful workplace culture aligned with plant operations and safety norms.
Required Experience(Non-Negotiable)
Experience (Mandatory)
- Minimum 5+ years of HR/Admin experience specifically in a ferro alloys plant.
- Only ferro alloys industry experience will be considered. Candidates from other sectors (steel, cement, chemicals, IT, services, mining-only roles, etc.) are not acceptable for this role.
Education
- Graduate/Postgraduate in HR / Personnel Management / Industrial Relations / Social Work / Business Administration or equivalent.
Domain Knowledge (Must-have)
- Practical exposure to HR & Admin in heavy manufacturing / furnace-based plants with shift operations.
- Working knowledge of Indian labour laws relevant to factories, contract labour, PF/ESIC, wage, bonus, and gratuity compliance.
- Hands-on experience in maintaining statutory registers, contractor compliance checks, and inspection/audit readiness.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong people-handling skills with workers, contractors, and staff in a plant environment.
- Clear understanding of shift-based operations, manpower planning basics, and attendance discipline.
- Familiar with labour law registers, returns, contractor documentation, and audit/inspection preparations.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with Production, Safety, Accounts, and Plant Management.
- Proficient in MS Excel and comfortable with HR systems/ERP (generic HRIS; exposure to SAP/Tally/other systems is an advantage).
- Good communication skills in English + [Hindi/Bengali/Odia/Local Language as applicable].
- High integrity, confidentiality, and discipline in handling people data, statutory records, and sensitive matters.
