Role Overview

The Utility Head will be responsible for planning, installation, operation, and maintenance of all utility systems in a 3 GW solar cell manufacturing facility. This includes ensuring uninterrupted supply of critical utilities such as power, water, compressed air, HVAC, vacuum systems, process gases, waste treatment, and other auxiliary systems. The role demands leadership, technical expertise, cost optimization, and compliance with safety and environmental standards.



Key Responsibilities

1. Utility Operations & Maintenance

  • Ensure continuous and reliable operation of all utilities:
  • Power distribution & backup systems (transformers, DG sets, UPS, HT/LT panels).
  • Chillers, HVAC systems, cooling towers.
  • Boilers/thermic fluid heaters (if applicable).
  • Compressed air systems, vacuum pumps.
  • Process gases (O₂, N₂, H₂, Argon, etc.).
  • Water treatment plants (RO, DM, ETP, STP).
  • Effluent & waste management systems.
  • Develop preventive & predictive maintenance schedules.
  • Monitor utility KPIs (uptime %, energy efficiency, OEE).

2. Project Management & Commissioning

  • Lead design, installation, and commissioning of all utility systems during plant setup/expansion.
  • Coordinate with EPC contractors, vendors, and consultants.
  • Ensure CAPEX projects are delivered on time, within budget, and as per technical standards.

3. Energy & Cost Optimization

  • Implement energy conservation measures.
  • Reduce cost of utility operations through efficiency improvement.
  • Benchmark energy/water/gas consumption against industry best practices.

4. Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure adherence to local statutory norms: GPCB, GEDA, CEA, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, etc.
  • Maintain environmental compliance: zero liquid discharge, emission standards.
  • Establish SOPs for safe handling of gases, chemicals, and high-voltage systems.

5. Team Leadership

  • Lead a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, supervisors, and technicians.
  • Conduct training programs for skill development.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

6. Coordination

  • Collaborate with Production, Process Engineering, Facilities, EHS, and Admin teams.
  • Ensure smooth utility support to cell manufacturing lines.
  • Provide inputs during plant expansions and new projects.



Key Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of

    utility systems in high-tech manufacturing

    (semiconductor/solar/chemical/pharma).
  • Expertise in

    electrical distribution, HVAC, water systems, process gases

    .
  • Project management and vendor coordination.
  • Cost control & energy management.
  • Leadership, decision-making, and crisis management.



Qualifications & Experience

  • B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical/Electrical/Chemical Engineering

    (M.Tech preferred).
  • 15–20 years

    of experience in Utilities & Facilities, with at least

    5–7 years in a leadership role

    .
  • Experience in

    large-scale, continuous process industries

    (Semiconductor/Solar/Pharma/Steel/Chemical) preferred.
  • Knowledge of

    ISO standards, EHS, TPM, and lean manufacturing

    .
