General Manager - BESS Product Development

Position Overview

The General Manager - BESS Product Development will be a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the end-to-end BESS Product Development lifecycle of our BESS solutions, from cell-to-module to pack-to-BESS assembly. This includes expertise in battery technology, Power Conversion Systems (PCS), liquid cooling systems, fire suppression systems, Battery Management Systems (BMS), and Energy Management Systems (EMS). The role demands deep knowledge of product design, development, and manufacturing processes gained from experience in leading battery companies in India or abroad. Based in Hyderabad, the candidate must be willing to relocate and drive innovation, quality, and operational excellence at our BESS factory.

Key Responsibilities

• Product Development and Strategy

  :
• Lead the design, development, and optimization of BESS products, ensuring integration of advanced battery technologies, PCS, liquid cooling systems, fire suppression systems, BMS, and EMS.
• Define BESS Product Development roadmaps aligned with market needs and company objectives.
• Collaborate with R&D teams to innovate and implement cutting-edge solutions for energy storage systems.

• Manufacturing Process Oversight

  :
• Oversee the establishment and scaling of BESS manufacturing processes, focusing on cell-to-module, module-to-pack, and pack-to-BESS assembly, ensuring efficiency, quality, and compliance with industry standards.
• Implement best practices in battery module and pack assembly, system integration, and testing, drawing from global manufacturing expertise.
• Drive process improvements to enhance yield, reduce costs, and ensure scalability.

• Technical Leadership

  :
• Provide technical expertise in battery technology, thermal management, power electronics, and safety systems.
• Lead cross-functional teams, including engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance, to achieve product and production goals.
• Mentor and develop technical talent to build a high-performing team.

• Compliance and Safety

  :
• Ensure all products and processes comply with relevant industry standards, certifications, and regulations (e.g., UL, IEC, BIS).
• Oversee the integration of robust fire suppression and safety systems to meet stringent safety requirements.

• Stakeholder Collaboration

  :
• Work closely with supply chain, procurement, and vendors to ensure high-quality cells, materials, and components.
• Collaborate with sales, marketing, and customer teams to align product capabilities with market demands.
• Engage with external partners, including technology providers and regulatory bodies, to stay ahead of industry trends.

• Project Management

  :
• Manage timelines, budgets, and resources for product development and manufacturing projects.
• Deliver projects on time while maintaining high standards of quality and performance.

Qualifications and Experience

• Education

  : Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree or MBA is preferred.

• Experience

  :
• Minimum of 12-15 years of experience in battery technology, energy storage systems, or related fields, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
• Proven track record in product development and manufacturing in leading battery or BESS companies in India or abroad (e.g., Tesla, CATL, LG Chem, Exide, Amara Raja, or similar).
• Hands-on experience with battery technologies (e.g., Lithium-ion, LFP, NMC), PCS, liquid cooling systems, fire suppression systems, BMS, and EMS.
• In-depth knowledge of battery manufacturing processes, specifically module assembly, pack assembly, and BESS integration.

• Technical Skills

  :
• Expertise in battery technology, thermal management, and power electronics.
• Familiarity with industry standards and certifications (e.g., UL 9540, IEC 62619, BIS).
• Proficiency in BMS and EMS software development and integration.
• Understanding of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.

• Leadership Skills

• Strong leadership and team management abilities, with experience leading cross-functional teams.
• Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and project management skills.
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

• Other Requirements

  :
• Willingness to relocate to Hyderabad, Telangana.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of Hindi or Telugu is a plus.

• Experience in scaling manufacturing operations for BESS or similar high-tech products, particularly in module-to-pack and BESS assembly.
