Looking for a 'Fabric manager ( 7-10+) years experience based out of kanchipuram for a leading Textile manufacturer. Job Purpose: To manage the end-to-end fabric lifecycle for lungi production, including dyeing, weaving, and finishing. The Fabric Manager ensures timely availability of quality yarn and fabric while maintaining cost efficiency and production schedules. Key Responsibilities: 1. Yarn Inventory: Coordinate with yarn suppliers, spinners, and mills to ensure timely delivery. Maintain stock levels of yarn based on forecasted weaving needs. Evaluate and onboard reliable yarn vendors with competitive pricing. 2. Yarn Dyeing & Color Management: Plan and manage yarn dyeing schedules in coordination with in-house or outsourced dyeing units. Select and standardize dyeing methods (reactive, vat, azo-free, etc.) based on fabric requirements. Ensure color consistency and fastness for all dyed yarns. Approve lab dips and maintain dyeing SOPs. 3. Fabric Development & Quality Assurance: Oversee weaving of dyed yarns into lungis via handloom or power loom setups. Define technical specifications such as GSM, weave type, fabric width, and shrinkage limits. Conduct regular inspections to ensure weaving quality, defect control, and hand-feel standards. Collaborate with weaving units and fabric inspectors for quality output. 4. Fabric Finishing & Storage: Coordinate with finishing teams for fabric processes like calendaring, washing, or softening. Ensure proper folding, packaging, and bundling of finished lungis. Maintain safe and organized storage of both raw and finished fabrics. 5. Vendor & Production Coordination: Liaise with yarn mills, dye houses, and weavers to streamline production flow. Troubleshoot delays or quality issues at any stage of yarn-to-fabric conversion. Maintain delivery timelines aligned with production targets. 6. Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of yarn inward/outward, dyeing batches, weaving output, and QC reports. Monitor fabric yield, wastage, and unit consumption metrics. Provide weekly updates to management on yarn and fabric status. Required Skills & Qualifications: Degree/Diploma in Textile Engineering, Fabric Technology, or related field. 7–10 years of experience in woven fabric or traditional garment manufacturing (lungi, dhoti, sarong, etc.). Sound knowledge of cotton yarn types, dyeing techniques, and weaving operations. Familiarity with both handloom and power loom processes is preferred. Strong people management, team coordination, and inventory control skills. Desirable Traits: Ability to work with local artisans and small-scale weavers. Hands-on problem-solving approach. Passion for traditional Indian fabrics and textile heritage. Practical knowledge of sustainable and eco-friendly textile practices.
